I've had mine pierced (needled) 3 times & it leaves no noticeable scar at all. It doesn't hurt either.

 

I had mine pierced about a month and a half ago. Most friend I know who had the piercing at took it out years ago, now only have what I would call a "large pore" where the hole was. Mine is still not healed and if i were to take mine out i'd have a pretty noticeable gaping hole in my flesh in the middle of my face which wouldn't be too attractive. So I think the answer is that once it is healed a long time down the line you may be able to take in in and out, and if you take it out permanently you will probably be left with minimal scarring (but probably not none at all). In the beginning though, i don't think you will be able to take it in and out selectively for quite some time.
