I didn't say that pot caused cancer, I said I can't stand the thought of sucking stuff into my lungs because my family has a history of lung disease (going back to 1920). My lungs are already in shitty condition - smelling cigarette or pot smoke makes me cough badly. That's just how it affects me.

I didn't say booze was good, I just said I know where I stand with it. So I don't want to try weed - how does that affect your life? How does a random person you've never met not trying weed affect anything to do with you?

anywho, I don't like pot because I just don't like pot. I can't stand the smell, and I don't really feel the urge to try it. Also don't feel the urge to bungee jump, or do a whole shitload of things that people consider normal. c'est la vie.

You're skeptical of whether anyone who didn't smoke cigarettes but did smoke weed ever got lung cancer?

Dude, are you aware that people who have never smoked a cigarette in their lives can still get lung cancer?!

That sort of pokes a big hole in your rolling paper there, don't it?

I grew up surrounded by pot and pot smokers. When I was a kid, I loathed the smell of burning pot. To me, it smelled like spinach burning on the bottom of a pot on the stove. Disgusting.

I always wanted my thinking, my consciousness, to be the result of ME, not the result of the interaction of ME with a CHEMICAL. I made a huge exception just to drink alcohol, which I resisted for some time before trying. (I still drink very rarely.)

I also have never liked the idea of putting smoke into my body. Bad enough I grew up in a house with both parents smoking.

So I have never smoked pot, and plan to live my life without ever doing it or other drugs.

I'd say your desperate insistence that there's nothing unhealthy about inhaling smoke is what's naive.

WHAT? Alcohol burns, dissolves cells? That's not what causes the health problems related to alcohol. It's not cells being "dissolved" that leads to cirrhosis of the liver.

You say that particulates of smoke merely block and irritate the lungs. You're not aware that there are substances that cause chromosomal damage, and that may be what causes cells to become cancerous? And that such substances can be found in smoke?

[quotei try to get as many people as i can to try weed, if they dont like the experience, thats fine. though alot of people forget how a binge-drink has left them in agonising sickness befor they learnt their limits.
if tehyre like 'eww drugs!' then im like 'you fuckin asshat'[/QUOTE]
You're funny -- you're like a bigot against people who have some reason to not want to do drugs. :p And anyone who god forbid speaks against drugs, to you they're an "asshat." LOL!

if your worried about the smoke use a vaporizer, no smoke, it heats the weed up enough for the thc to be released but not hot enough for it to combust, so put your fears of cancer away.

I've got nothing against people smoking it but I dont and never will,

because... (this is long winded, kind of cheesy, sorry)

my freind had leukemia when she was tiny - like 3 years old. While in hospital she met her best mate Robbie, who was sick with leukemia too. They both went into remission, but have to have regular check ups and stuff.

Anyway, a few years ago all our mates were doing pot - Robbie included. My friend was freaking out because they'd had big talks about the danger of pot on leukemia patients at her cancer survivour meetings. She has seen heaps of people die from cancer, people our age who she has met over the years, and she is terrified of Robbie going the same way.

Anyway, I wasn't smoking at this stage (although the rest of the people we were with were pretty much shit faced), and I saw how unhappy she was, so I promised her to never smoke pot so that she can always have a non-stoned buddy to chill with.

So I don't do it - because even if she didn't find out, I'd know, and she is a lovely girl who doesn't deserve people who go back on their word.

I dont do it anymore only because I get drug tested like mad. BUT if it were legal...

I do notice a change in my memory but the BIG change has been in regards to my motivation. When I was smoking that was what I lived for. When I got paid I would budget myself out enough to keep myself stoned till next payday. Then I would smoke up and that was pretty much all I did. I know they say you cant get addicted to pot but I think I was dependent on it. My life suffered for it. I almost lost everything that was ever special to me and almost lost the people I love most in all the world.

It also made me content to stay at a dead end job that was draining my spirit year by year. I wasnt making any money(and what I was making I was spending on pot) and there was no room left for advancement.

BUT if it were legal and/or I worked in an environment that permitted me to smoke I know that I would do it again. I would try to limit my usage this time though.

more like it pokes a hole in the rolling paper of anyone who says smoking causes cancer, by that logic.

your brain is a fluctuating system of chemicals. 'me' IS chemicals. when you eat various foods, your putting in chemicals that can affect the way you think. your brain is an organ just like any other, and in order to survive, we put in chemicals to make it work. so by taking drugs, your merely showing different aspects of your mind, but putting in different chemicals. its still your mind. drugs just allow you to take a picture of your mind from every angle, and eventually sculpt a model of it. if you know what i mean.

i didnt say there was nothing unhealthy but the health risks are all around us, we constantly take health 'risks' and do things that dont exactly aid out health.

you mean the substances that are added to cigarettes? or the obvious chemicals that are in weed smoke, since you showed me all that objective evidence showing how marijuana smokers have a significantly higher risk of lung cancer than non marijuana smokers (wihtout cigarette cause)

that is because i think drugs are the key to understanding ourselves.
if you have an earthquake station, you can recieve a reading of how far away an earthquake is. if you have another earthquake station, you can narrow it down to two possibilities, and if you have three, you can finally find the earthquake. i see it as a similar situation with the brain, you cant understand how it works just by looking at it sober, you need to see how it changes and what its affects are. also theres the taking pictures of the mind analogy further up.
i see drugs as the ultimate experience, one directly working apon the brain. and so i see them as a very special thing. and a pwoerful thing. im not one to promote drugs like stimulants, opiates, alchohol, etc because they arent as revealing as psych's, though i do plan to try most drugs myself for my own learning.
and if a person speaks against drugs but takes anything else thats when theyre an asshat. most people fall into that category. just like you can drink a drink every now and then, its even less harmful to have a joint with some friends every now and then. people often fail to draw that connection, that trying weed has to equate to becoming a stoner like many on this board and doing it all the time.

I don't like doing drugs or getting really drunk or anything (although I will drink a couple drinks if I like the wine they got, and at dinner)... I don't need it to relax or to let go or to do stuff I wouldn't dare to do otherwise or anything -I just do whatever I damn well want to when sober and if anyone doesn't like it, tough. I was drunk once and didn't like the feeling nor the next morning. I don't have the feeling I'm missing anything, the descriptions I've had from friends who've smoked don't sound like anything I want to experience, so why should I?

Also, while I like the smell of someone else smoking pot, I don't like the idea of a whole lung-full of it. I often say, I like the way herbs smell when cooking, too, but I never want to eat an entire spoon-ful of them. Too much!

No problem at all with anyone who uses pot -it definitely should be legalized in the US like it is here- but this is just how I feel for myself.

I'm not sure if I would be considered a 'non-pot smoker' or not, considering that I do smoke on occasion (but this occurs on average, every few to several months). For me, it's a wonderful and special experience that I enjoy thoroughly when I do it. But, much like the way I get disgusted and saddened when I see a morbidly obese person stuffing their face with the most gluttonous of food choices on a daily basis, I get disgusted and saddened when I see someone completely succumbing to the stereotypical 'stoner' lifestyle, and essentially letting it rule their lives. These are the ones who smoke several times a day, everyday, and that eventually don't feel 'normal' unless they smoke. They perpetuate the stereotype of laziness and thickheadedness as they use pot as their excuse for idleness, when in reality they would probably be lazy and dim even if they didn't have something to blame it on. A perfect crutch, in this case. I thoroughly encourage, on the other hand, those who are capable of learning from/enjoying/appreciating this fine substance, and don't take it for granted or use it as an excuse for laziness but rather as a catalyst for thought.

okay first of all, you are inhaling smoke...... whether you people realize it or not, smoke isnt good for your lungs, be it through cigarettes or weed...... you do know you die through asphixiation in a fire before you would by being burned to death. also, would you really want to stand in a closed garage with your car running?? smoke isnt good for lungs, and if anyone tells you different, then you are gullible as all hell.

second of all, I dont smoke because I hate the feeling when I have. Ive done it on occasion, usually not very often, maybe 3-6 months in between... I just hate the feeling of laziness, and being unmotivated. also, I had a few panic attacks when high. I hate not being in control, and pot makes me feel like I have no control over anything and I feel stupid. so I really dont feel like doing that crap, anymore. I hate the paranoia more than anything.

smoke isn't good for your lungs but you need lots of smoke for it to be a problem. Testing shows that the smoke from weed can cause Emphesima (no clue if spelling is correct) and Bronchitis, but only if you smoke just about daily.

Who says you have to smoke pot to get high.
    You can make brownies instead.
I guess some people just aren't suited to the
    wonderful panacea plant.
