that sounds pretty. and pearl is my middle name. that does give me ideas. the idea of diamonds is more appealing than the actual stone.
anyone know why diamonds kinda became the official stone for marriage? i'm sure it's an interesting tale..... I'd prefer some sort of crystal, with some kind of special meaning. perhaps our birthstones centered by a mutual stone of love
Diamonds in wedding rings goes back to Roman times. Diamonds - because of their hardness & crystal clarity represent everlasting love. You might like to look into the meanings of some of your favorite gems; perhaps there's one that you'd like better? Anything but opal can stand constant wear & tear, so really the sky's the limit! Personally I'm tired of the whole wedding ring debate. When my husband first proposed to me he gave me a cherry ring pop with a note that said he wanted me to choose my own ring since it would live on MY finger and not HIS for the rest of our lives. I thought that was truly sweet, but when I begged for a simple band he was afraid of how others would see that saying "Everyone's going to think I'm too cheap to buy you a REAL ring or will think I don't love you enough to buy diamonds!" We went round & round this argument for months until I settled on a simple ring with a tiny sliver of diamond in it. Wedding rings are SO touchy - because it's the physical tie that EVERYONE sees between the two of you. Have you considered looking at antique stores? I have seen some of the most incredible rings there, and the prices are fantastic. Most recently I saw a white-gold ring with a center-set pearl & two tiny amethyst on either side - ohhh, it was so pretty! And it was $75. Sure, there's the possibility that the stones weren't genuine but you can have things pre-appraised. Going with a previously owned ring gives your ring instant history AND you're recycling... another component of "green" living love, mom I myself am currently wearing a 2mm platinum band. My ring was cut from my hand 3 years after our wedding when I developed an allergy to gold. (sigh) I have my grandmothers' wedding ring here though, and it is our plan to take her stones & my stone and make a new ring out of "the family gems" for our 15th anniversary.
homeschool mama, it's amazing you say that because, silly me, forgot my grandmother sent me her old engagement ring awhile ago. It's gold with a diamond framed in kind of a box or rectangular looking setting with 2 smaller diamonds on the side. So I took it to the jeweler to have it resized, but didn't bother to ask it's material worth because it wouldn't feel right, and it fit exactly into our budget, 150. it would of been less if they weren't taking it from a 4 to a 7, since they have to replace the band, but I'm happy. I just have to wait to wear it til wednesday I'm glad we have a material symbol to recognize our bond. I know it's not important in the realm of love, but something about it makes me feel good inside I guess that I'm good enough to be the one that gets the ring haha so they say in movies in bitch fights. I don't know. but it feels good and it shows he reallly reallly fuckin loves me
I love my fiance so much and didn't in a million years think I would get a ring as nice as the one he got me, but seeing how happy he was that he made me happy...it was unreal. And I care about him more than anything. Me wanting a nice wedding ring and engagement ring and wanting to get him a bad ass one as well has nothing to do with our love. It has to do with our strong desire to make each otehr happy.
he's just showing his disgust as the way it is. my ring makes me happy too. if only the world was perfect, but it isn't.
you're ring sounds gorgeous. Even though they are a material item they make ya feel pretty darn special! HUGS
