No Diploma,No welfare?

OK, maybe where you live school isn't as much as a joke as it is here. In MD, if you're not passing your classes they send you to an alternative learning center, and everyone passes who goes there. In Maryland, a high school diploma is bullshit.

If there children are starving, then its the parents fault, the parent should give up their kids until they can get their shit straight, there is no sense teaching kids when they are young that they can smoke crack, or weed, and then just get on welfare and be fine.

I never said they had to support the family completely on welfare, I said they should get a job, at least that way they are contributing to their income, instead of being a leach on society.

I never said I wanted women having babies they couldn't support, where did you hear that? I think if you can't support the child, then you shouldn't have it.

Don't make quotes like typical conservative, because you are a typical liberal, we each know the stereotypes, and bringing them up here is childish.

 

Souless. you are looking at it like everyone is like you. I can see you are an intelligent, educated young man. Not everyone has these perks. I am an educated, intelligent womyn, but I can see that not everyone has the abilities that I have. Some people fall into poverty, by no fault of their own.

As for cannabis usage, should welfare recipents also get daily alcohol tests? I mean, if they can afford booze........

 

I know that people fall into poverty, I feel bad for those people, I respect them even more when they get back on their feet and take a job they hate to help their families, what pisses me off is the people who know they can exploit the welfare system, and do, so they don't have to work.

I think alcohol tests should be given to those who rely on welfare, and refuse to get a job, if you have a job, supplemented by welfare, then no, you shouldn't drink, but you did earn that money.

 

Few people on welfare like it, or think it they are "just fine." Poverty is not usually the person's fault! Most Americans are just two paychecks away from poverty. Should they ALL give up their children because they fall on hard times? You don't have kids, do you? Even POOR people LOVE their children. Putting children into orphanages or group homes is MUCH more expensive than supporting them on Publuc Aid AT HOME, with their mothers, until their mothers and fathers get on their feet. Do you know the average time people stay on welfare? About 9 months, that's it. There are only a small minority who try to make it a lifestyle, and that has been eliminated by "welfare reform."

You said that Democrats were "hard on fetuses" that leads me to the natural conclusion that you are antichoice. HOW can she NOT have the baby, if the goverment FORCES her to have it? The way to allow her to not have the baby you worry so much about as a fetus, yet don't want to support as a air breathing, viable human, is to allow her access to Choice. Even if that means FUNDED choice. It's less expensive tha even a month on Public Aid.

I am sorry if what you thought I said was "childish" but when someone is against choice, yet wants has no regard for these babies ONCE they are BORN, don't you see that as a Disconnect from Logic?

 

Drug and alcohol test are only going to cost the Welfare System MORE than it does now. Is this about saving money, saving "babies" or just punishing people who are down on their luck?

 

Fine, I'd leave things like marijuana off even.. But not hard drugs like crack and shit. But Streamlight has a point, they shouldn't be spending money on crap like that either. And of course I fully agree about people not having children they can't support.. And for the record.. I don't believe in ADHD.. Ab out every third person at my school had ADHD, but the only ones who were actually messed up were the ones with a whole lot of other disorders as well.

 

Hmm. I do. I have a husband and two kids with it. One with uncomplicated ADD, no meds. Learning disorders are also a big reason for drop out rate. BOth learning disorders and ADD have been confirmed with PET scans and MRIs. They both exist.

As for "leaving off" MJ, you are never going to get a law passed like that. The people who are "antidrug" don't discriminate between someone who smokes a joint twice a year, and a full blown crack head. To them it is all the same, and they are the ones who are going to legislate this.

 

Its a basic human rights issue.

Nobody should be starving or homeless, regardless of how lazy you think they are.

 

Yeah well, real or not, as common as it is I'd just consider it being normal. And I don't think it would be a bad thing to have all drugs on there and alcohol.. Hell add cigarettes to the list too.. They're all bad for you and a waste of money better spent on necessities when you're living on a severely limited income.

 

Basic human rights? Only basic right I really believe in is freedom. The rest is up to you to provide for yourself..

 

I am married to a man with ADHD, and TRUST ME, it definitely exists...


However, I do think it is something that is over-diagnosed, and also something a lot of people claim to have without ever being diagnosed.

 

The school system is a factor too and corporate influence... uninteresting schools, teachers, teaching methods and motives, poor environments, and lack of resources/funding and learning styles..

Our culture.... does not embrace education, it embrace making the most amount of buck in the least amount of time.

I definitely agree with that article you posted inquiring-mind.. School has nothing to do with education, it's all about obedience.. You don't have to be intelligent to do well, just obedient.. I was told as much by a principal, that education had nothing to do with it, along with that students have no rights.. Public schools are crap.

 

Dropouts rates are a national epidemic..

Shit, welfare isn't costing us near as much as all this money we use up on war and military spending, or money that is plain wasted. I don't see why people care so much about the fraction of our tax dollars spent on welfare, taking care of people in our country (regardless of whether or not one thinks they need or deserve it), when the larger portion (rediculously large), is lost somewhere in our military and war spending (and $800 dollar hammers). Helping other people in my country I am happy to do. Helping rich white aristocrats and bearucrats play wargames while they shit on thousand dollar tiolet seats and plan their next department outing to Aruba, I am not.
