New War In The South Against Gay Rights

NC's governor Pat McCrory has filed a lawsuit against the federal government, related to the Justice Department ruling on NC's law on transgender and homosexual rights. Temporarily, while the suit is tied up in court, the US government can't withhold any money from the state. Billions are at stake. Win or lose, NC taxpayers will be on the hook for tens of millions in legal costs for this lawsuit.

Latest boycott update; several movie studios have decided not to allow their movies to be shown in NC theaters.

Protest signs have popped up in downtown Raleigh calling for homosexuality to be made illegal again, regardless of the US Constitution.

You wouldn't believe some of the ridiculous, manipulative public rallies I've seen broadcast on local TV recently. Skilled public speakers are working these mostly working class people into a frenzy. They talk about all the sexual abuse that is "sure" to go on in public bathrooms if the federal government gets its way, and how the good conservative Christian men of this state should not be able to face themselves in the mirror every morning if they don't do whatever it takes to put a stop to it. They say no amount of financial pain is too high of a cost for victory. The camera pans the audience, and some of these people are getting emotional about it! They're actually shedding tears for the future victims of "evil" transsexuals!

This is the same kind of manipulative shit that goes on every Sunday in NC's white fundamentalist churches. Not helping matters at all is the fact that the most liberal black churches in the state are also very much opposed to homosexuality.

Bubba Jesus is the name I've invented for the deity the fundamentalists worship; the lily-white Protestant redneck conservative savior who wears a baseball cap, short hair, cares about NASCAR races, disrespects minorities and women, and would rather be crucified upside down and backwards than vote for a Democrat.

 

I thought North Carolina was supposed to be the better, more progressive Carolina. All this is a bit disheartening.

 

I knew that our conservatives were worse than SC's conservatives, but we used to have a Democratic governor who could veto their most radical ideas.

It's completely a polarized split of urban vs. rural cultures. (Remember Jesse Helms? He was from one of those backwater time warp places in the eastern part of the state.) People in the big cities have been feeling recently like we were being held hostage, and now embarrassed nationally and internationally.

 

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch just delivered a powerful, passionate, and articulate rebuttal of McCrory's speech earlier in the afternoon, explaining why the federal government is going to do whatever it takes to get this state law overturned. She came across as much more intelligent and in touch with the times than Governor McCrory, who I thought sounded arrogant and condescending. Loretta Lynch is originally from Greensboro. She graduated from high school there.

NC Attorney General Roy Cooper is not assisting the governor in his legal actions against Lynch because Cooper is a Democrat who opposes McCrory's position. Cooper is running for governor in November. To anyone who wants to do something that legitimately stands a chance of making this situation better, I recommend making a small campaign contribution to Roy Cooper. Money from the far right, from all over America, is pouring into McCrory's reelection campaign.

 

Students in Salisbury, NC public schools will now be able to carry pepper spray on campus. A local political leader explained that the girls will need to be able to defend themselves against transgender people in bathrooms.

OK, education time. "Trannies" in this discussion is inappropriate & politically incorrect. I have had "trannies" follow me home when I was younger in the French Quarter in the '70s. These were male drag queens who prefer big young male parts that I had in those days or they could be "transvestite" (cross dressing) men who were het and usually secretive about their paraphilia.

Transgender are ppl who were assigned the wrong physical parts at birth, a fact that they discovered as they grew up and wish to change their gender to fit their personality or who they actually are. This is nothing new - women have secretly lived as men for centuries. This goes beyond the butch lesbians who are quite often happy to be a masculine female and will kick your ass if you challenge them. (And, who knows how many of them may actually be predisposed to be transgender?)

So, correctly you should refer to them as trans or transgender. NOT transgendered because once the identity has become the other gender, they are that gender, whether it is a guy with a vagina or a girl with a penis.

And, it takes a while. With hormone replacement therapy you are slowly changing one gender to another. Sometimes surgery is required (for those in this oligarchy who can afford it). Sweet looking men with feminine facial features in our society are accepted since they could be teen boys (targeted for other reasons). But there are a lot of women who still retain masculine facial features during transition and these are the ones that the bigots will challenge. And, there are some cisgender (Latin derived prefix cis, meaning "on this side of") women who look masculine and I hope when they get accosted by the bigots in the women's room they sue the shit out of the perp and maybe even try to bring the in deep pocket government that created this bigotry as a co-respondent.

Now back in the racist days in these same backwater Southern states run by ignorant bigots - the same as they are today, blacks likely were a significant minority. So, MAJORITY RULE, right? NO FUCKING WAY! It took blacks well into the second half of the 20th Century to get the Apartheid Government in America (Forced from the Federal level) to DO THE RIGHT THING.

Civil Rights of a minority are not subject to the democratic wishes of a hateful majority. That is why they are called civil rights - they are guaranteed no matter if you are a minority of 13% or 1%.

NOW THE FACTS. This whole debacle is a manufactured problem by the Christian Bigots in the South and a few other rural dominated states in the West and North where education and world view are lacking. (We don't need no book learnin' because - Jesus) Think back to 2014 or 15. How many reports did you read, see or hear about transgender women accosting girls or women in public restrooms? If you can find one, I'm sure there will be tenfold reports of Catholic Priests accosting children or homophobic preachers accosting boys or men or even Repugnicant moralizing politicians being caught with their pants down. THERE IS NO PROBLEM, IT IS ALL PARANOID CONJECTURE OF SIMPLE-MINDED BIGOTS.

So, who is responsible to see that these states do the right thing? The ppl who live in them and elect all those SIMPLE-MINDED BIGOTS to office. Of course it is unfair to the liberals in the urban areas who are stuck with the ignorant electorate of the rest of the state. An electorate that is so obsessed with their ignorance that they will kill the cities that were laying the golden eggs of revenue by having an egalitarian world view necessary in the 21st Century.

NOW ANOTHER FACT. Everyone has been sharing a bathroom all these years with a transgender person and there were no problems. They were unseen in the stall in the men's room and the women's room. Never a problem and nobody knew until the U.S. Supreme Court made gay ppl visible by declaring their civil rights to marry, adopt and enjoy all the other civil rights that heterosexuals took for granted. The unholy Christians didn't like that any more than those pesky feds giving rights to their niggers. So, this is the rebellion of ignorance over enlightenment and I hope it passes before too many transgender ppl are hurt by the bigots.

Ask yourself why Europe, which has many transgender ppl does not have a problem with this as do certain Americans in the U.S. It is our very own manufactured problem and ensuing witch hunt as we have had so many times before. It will be seen as the dark days of "Un-American Activities" by Joe McCarthy in the 1950s, or the dark days of American Apartheid and all these asswipes like Gov. McCrory will have their names forever on the wrong side of history.

I hate to say it folks but the gay rights debate is actually a moot point. American citizenry don't have rights to begin with and to claim that anyone should be given rights implies that someone else has the authority to give those rights in the first place .

 

And now we have the letter from Obama informing all school systems that in order to continue receiving federal funds, they have to respect transgender bathroom rights. Like many others involved in public education (especially in the South) my best friend received notification from the local school superintendent that anyone who obeys the President's instructions is likely to be fired or suspended without pay.

The news media is giving a lot of attention to Texas, but the same thing is going on in a lot of places. Most of these school systems have to be bluffing, because they can't afford to function without federal funds. One of the first and most dire consequences is that many thousands of low income students on federal free lunch programs will be told that they don't get to eat lunch anymore. Republicans are putting politics ahead of the basic needs of students.

 

Poor kids don't need no stinkin' lunch. And by the bye, it's a good thing that republican governors won't ask for federal money to help with all the destructive weather going on. It's a state issue, don't ya' know. Of course they'll stick to their principles of shrinking the federal government down.

There are no rights of any kind given except those that are granted by the ones with the most guns and/or political power. Doubt if that will ever change.
