Corporate irresponsibility is a touchy subject for me & I've remained steadfastly pissed at Exxon since '89 and the Exxon-Valdez incident. I'm finding that there's a whole new generation that needs to be educated as to how the drunken captain of the tanker ran aground in Prince William Sound & spilled its cargo of crude into a previously pristing wilderness, and how Exxon first denied any responsibility for clean up and after pressure spent MILLIONS on TV spots and newspaper ads saying how concerned they were for the environment. Eventually they received a fine but to this day there is still crude oil poisoning the sound and Exxon/Mobil becomes the richest company in America.

The behavioir of Big Oil sickens me... the price-gouging that routinely goes on and the government sits idly buy treating it as though they are helpless spectators instead of it being a crime in progress. There is no appreciable choice when it comes to hybrids at this point. The technology is there; a couple months ago a news story surfaced about a high school class that built a car that runs on bio-diesel and gets 50mpg. Why isn't this on the market? Undoubtedly because someone got paid off to keep it off. And people in general sicken me too- not bothered at all that they are getting robbed, not only every time they fill up, but every time they purchase something that gets shipped & any thing that involves petroleum. They can't rationalize that it doesn't affect them because the gouging is on clear display every time one passes a gas station.

Not only gouging but price fixing as well- no competition for station to station. This is illegal as well and you see it every day... gas stations within a few hundred feet of each other charging the exact same price per gallon... go some miles away to an interstate and the same companies with stations near each other, charging 10 or more cents a gallon for the exact same product-- and Citgo, for all the points it wins politically by thumbing its nose at the U.S. government doesn't get a pass here... they are charging the same as the rest of Big Oil... for less expensive product.

Meanwhile all government does is talk... what they NEED to do is sponsor technology that will effectively compete with the money gluttons- find alternative, environmentally friendly fuel sources taking an active role in cutting our absolute dependence on petroleum that all of Big Oil is taking full advantage of.
