he's never going to grow up. and most of his music is cheesy and contrived. anything referring to celeb culture makes me cringe -- if you think it's bullshit, why continue giving it airtime with parodies? come out with something else.
Who said he thinks it's bullshit? He takes stabs at Amy Whinehouse in "We Made You", but he also asked her to do a song with him. He wanted to create something that grabbed people like Stan w/ Dido. When she declined he wished her well in rehab and told her it's an open invitation. What's funny is that he's no more "childish" or "offensive" than anybody on this board.
I wont lie, We Made You kind of made me go, "WTF?" But the rest I liked. Especially Crack A Bottle. And KC, I must say, you kinda caught me by surprise on that one.
"The enforcer, looking for more women to torture Walk up to the cutest girl and Charlie Horse her Sorry Portia, but whats Ellen Degeneres Have that I don't, are you telling me tenderness? Well I can be as gentle and as smooth as a gentleman Give me my ventolin inhaler and two Xenadrine And I'll invite Sarah Palin out to dinner then Nail her,'Baby say hello to my little friend' " Yeah, I know. I mean how can people not laugh at that? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o8UgIgI8BU Yeah.. Childish, pop culture refrences.... I get it. I watch Family Guy too, so I guess it makes sense.
Family Guy? Even I don't watch that... I found the dressing up and the video to be funny, not really the lyrics. More him pretending to cry on Ellen Degeneres' show than his saying he's compassionate. Pop Culture references were amusing though! I liked them.
I hope it's the end of his career- singing about harm to one of your family is no example to set to his largely young audience.
His audience wouldn't be so young if their parents observed the: Maybe more of them should do their job and teach their kids between fantasy and reality?
Yeah, I couldn't get explicit CDs till I was 15 and even now my parents won't buy them for me, I have to get them myself. Well, to be fair I can't bring myself to ask them but it's practically the same thing.
that i know the lotion in the basket scene or that i like eminem? very listenable. i think he's a talented wordsmith.
Yes, because all mainstream rappers rap about their drug addiction and murdering people while blacked out on a psycho rampage at 3 a.m. I can't believe that's all that you hear on the radio these days. What happened to the good stuff in the mainstream... Like, "Do the stanky leg" and other "In my White Tee"? Cause all those radio gangsters rap about bangin' Sarah palin'. Honestly man, you're sounding like a broken record.
Eminem might be "deep" mainstream, as far as it goes. (even though I still think that his lyrics are shit, and that he has major mommy issues), yet that doesn't mean he's not mainstream. He might not be Kanye. But he will never, ever, ever, ever, ever be as good as... Wu Tang, per example... which is fairly mainstream in its own right.
I thought if you (or the kind of music you make) made the charts and get lots of media attention you're mainstream? So he seems mainstream to me. But I admit right away I always have a bit of a difficulty recognizing what exactly is mainstream or underground.
Mainstream is typically used to define what is popular. People ride the "trendy" "popular" concept in lieu of creativity. Hence all those southern rappers that were all rapping about grills and candy paint a few years back. There was the whole "dance-snap" thing. Etc etc. And while Eminem may release music under a commercial label, he has plenty of unreleased underground work as well. BSR, show me what you think are amazing complex lyrics.... I'd be interested to see.
My 2pence would be "This is the song that never ends it just goes on and on my friend some people started singing, not knowing what it was and they'll just keep on singing, forever just because.. this is the song that never ends"
