My dogs hair is in my locks. After he died I took a big bunch and crocheted it into one of my locks. Doesn't smell, my hair didn't fall off, and I feel it was a meaningful way to remember him by having a little piece of him with me at all times. If you think there's anything wrong with that, I suggest you quit worrying about what other people do.
^ congratulations in making me cry, you ****. I'm thinking about gathering enough hair to make a 15inch dread. Did your dogs hair fall out of your dreads at all? I think that's my main worry. I don't really know the best way to go about dreading dog hair.
i saw a pic recently of an older guy that made a dread wig out of like, crocheted and felted wool cords.... and it looked so cute!!! LOL obviously, just a costume, or something, but it was pretty neat. i have considered extensions just because my dreads are short enough to be very light weight, so they don't really have much "swing", but i have come to the conclusion that i love them the way they are, and i don't want to go through all that trouble, so, i'll leave them alone
I have four extensions in my hair that are wrapped, plus i at times wear colored wool dreads to add some color and for fun, they they are far from permanent. I should really get some pics, here are the wool wrapped ones... (taken from slang's tutorial at DT)
hey ive got an idea..lol my dad cut his long hair off a few years ago n he still has the ponytail that was cut off... im thinkin bout dreading it n putting it in a dread or 2...
not really fond of outside links....but since ya asked http://dreadlocktruth.com/community/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1774&highlight=extensions
Don't be such a pussy As for getting the hair to stay, your best bet would be not making a dread out of your dogs hair because it will most likely fall apart but to just sew or crochet individual hairs into your lock. Some of them fell out but I'm sure loads stayed (its hard to tell though because he had the same color hair as me)
i have some hair from my kitty in one dread that i felted in after she died. imo, the only way youd be able to make a dread out of your doggys hair is to felt it. you can wet felt it to some degree (i did this with my old dogs shed hair and made sort of a mat) or felt it with a felting needle. or a combo. otherwise, yeah you can just add it to your dreads. idk how jared got it to stay by just crocheting. felting definitely works though. but remember, its really damaging and ive seen locks fall off from felting, so either dont do it or be very careful. the one felted spot with my kitties hair feels way different from the rest of my locks but i think breakage was kept to a minimum b/c it was at the end of my dread (youll see what i mean if you try it) anyway, slang posted a wet felting tutorial on dlt. it definitely works better with wool than dog hair, but it will sorta work and then you could tighten it up with a felting needle. tanna, i tie wool "dreads" into my hair too, its fun holy long post...
I feel sorry for dreadlockftw,,,he's only 15I don't think it's good to have him in your sig. Even if it's a lil funny *geisha laugh*
Funny stuff with that sig pic but he is only 15. Although I have seen that same photo everywhere now. I am really thinking about putting in extensions once my tips lock up better and I can have them look almost natural. I have two colored wool pieces in now but I am not sure whether I like them or not. I think it is your head and if you want longer dreads then go for it.
I think Pat just secretly hates the dogs he lives with, and therefore hates all dogs. I like the dog hair idea. I was actually thinking about doing this with the locks that have broken off from my boyfriend's head.
