The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) — the innovation arm of the U.S. military — is aiming to answer these thorny questions by outsourcing the decision-making process to artificial intelligence. Through a new program, called In the Moment, it wants to develop technology that would make quick decisions in stressful situations using algorithms and data, arguing that removing human biases may save lives, according to details from the program’s launch this month. https://www.washingtonpost.com/tech...l-intelligence-battlefield-medical-decisions/
How would such an algorithm cope if a little green man were to set off a code red warning? (This coincidently reminds me of the abort scene in Alien 1979) Is has happened before and a man gave it more time before following through big time.
NASA astronauts will test a new $23 million toilet on the ISS to see if it smells – BON NEWS One bold step for woman.
Olympus Mons Today's VIS image is located on the upper slopes of Olympus Mons. Numerous thin lava flows are visible. The small raised channel is one mode of lava emplacement where the flow builds up cooling levees along both sides of the channel. Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in the solar system, reaching heights of over 40 km (25 miles) tall from base to summit, with the base covering an area as large as the state of Arizona. For comparison, Mauna Loa is 9 km (5.5 miles) tall measured from its base on the sea floor.
How would such an algorithm cope if a little green man were to set off a code red warning? An algorithm would not cope since that information could not be inputted to the computer to be able to rhythm which would make vast error. The computer AI being the “alien” and the little green man being the “living human” in all terms should never be able to cross that line of decision making. Gathering information is a process which that is awesome it is being processed so quickly and that where it should stop ..process the information...always let the decision be in the hands of human...could be the difference of being inhumane and humane in that moment
Human life is worth more than any intelligent report that reads eliminate or reduce ... Health care is very important and people are more than ‘units’ Health care is an essential part of life .. .it is also interesting that these algorithms will determine who is should receive procedures before another ...what information would that be based on, social class ? ...salary earned ?...would these factors come in to play ? I understand medical condition would be factored in ..what other incriminates of information would also determine the final decision ....
The collaboration of science n technology with human interaction is genius.. there would have to be clear boundaries set
one more thought on AI The algorithms of information will also be on any online content from social media which is already happening with advertising. The social media sites are helping feed the artificial intelligence on personal information using social media sites. Which in reality would only be a small fraction of who an individual is .....to artificial intelligence that would be entirely who is the individual is.
NASA's Mars helicopter just snapped its first color photo of the red planet. It's expected to fly on Monday. Ingenuity's camera snapped the picture (below) after the rotorcraft dropped to Mars' surface from the underbelly of the Perseverance rover on Saturday. NASA released the image on Monday.
'Potentially hazardous asteroid' will make its closest-ever approach to Earth on April Fools' Day (yes, really) The space rock is traveling around 29,800 mph (47,950 km/h).
