When our daughter graduates and leaves home, we plan to get a bus, transform it and travel across Canada, then down to South America. We would do it now, but our kiddo wants a "normal life" for awhile. Don't really blame her....she was a real trooper while we lived in a cabin without running water for over 2 years and when we lived out of our motorhome and tents for a year.

oh how fun! Ive toyed with the idea of raising Amara on the road in a bus before. But then reality kicked in and I realized that the whole idea is kinda silly with kids. But...to each their own I suppose. Do you guys and gals have veggie powered buses or fuel?
Scattered....looove your bus! I saw a pic of Frida by your bed. Any fan of Frida is pretty cool in my book! if my daughter was up and out already I would love to travel with you. Ill hit you up in 15 years eh?! lol. we can be travelin Granny's.

mandy..id ideally love to go veggie
if i had the resources id go electric, solar with veggie deisel backup generator
1 bus ive seen has a huge windmill that folds up on the roof.

as for kids on the road..homeschooling..its ewasy
just buses vcan be cramped watch a documentary called surfwise
kids in a bus need privacy as well as the parebnts and other adults need theyre private spaces or it vcan be traumatizing.

we plan on haveing a couple tipis wed set up for oprivate times, and to get outta the bus now and then
addirtionaly we thought about adding 2 vw buses ontop for the kids bedrooms
buses can be cramped with families but smart space usage can msake em just fine

    haha you bet mandy :D
my shorty is gas powered. im not planning on doing a propane conversion at this time. if it were diesel, i would be very tempted by veggie, but would not undertake that unless i had someone knowledgeable helping me.
its my first skoolie after all. i will probably have more. either that or stepvans or cubevans or those hardcore old diesel toyota truck things or a multi-fuel military vehicle (not that i could ever afford one)... i just like my customizable, live-in, versatile vehicles.

sunflower: sounds badass lol. i know all about driving loud, obnoxious vehicles that have little business on the road :D the fanbelts in my shorty squeal so loud when it starts, idles, switches gears, turns.... thats next on the list of things to fix, but it involves drilling out a broken bolt.

I used to own a vw bus, and in my experience if you don't have a lot of spare money, and a lot of car fixing knowledge then there are much better investments than a vw bus. The 60's buses, and 70's westies are nice looking, but that’s about it. Trying to start, after stopping on a hill, in the middle of traffic, is probably one of the most stressful things I’ve ever experienced.... and my vw bus was in near perfect condition.
