i know its hard because i can see myself as the one with the beautiful 5+ year dreads but at the same time i'm pissed because i got them done at a salon and spent hundreds of dollars getting something done i could have done myself and made look a hell of a lot better. The problem with neglect dreads is that i'm completely caucasian and my dreads wouldn't have formed otherwise, there are some situations where its almost impossible not to give in to babylon in the sense of not touching anything metal to your head because thats what i used to dread. instead of taking it literally i just looked at my locks as a symbol of my spiritual journey and a dedication to not cutting it. Hair is falling out and there's loops everywhere due to the things i did to try and get them to form faster in the earlier months. i just feel like if this is the path meant for me six months down the tubes is worth it if i can have better looking dreads if i put them back in. ya dig?
i'm a giiirlll thanks though. i switch between dr. bronners hemp soap (referred to me by a girl with older dreads) and knotty boy shampoo. but usually i'm just rinsing my dreads since washing them a lot doesn't help with the itchiness/dandruff. i'm having problems with new growth and a loooot of scabbing on my scalp. its just getting disgusting
Stop making things up. Locks, historically always neglect until the very recent past, have been a part of all sorts of cultures, including germanic/nordic cultures. This is me, the whitest person I know (I get made fun of by white friends for being so white) and these are my neglect dreads: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=399347&f=209&page=4 So stop feeling sorry for yourself. You haven't even showed any pictures, so we have no idea how to really react to this, other than saying you're not the type for dreads and don't seem to have researched it at all, especially if saying your hair type prevents you from neglecting. If you're a true rasta, your dreads would show THAT much more dedication for taking longer to form, and the point of them is to show how long you have taken the nazerite vow... (I doubt you actully know what that is, being a rasta isn't owning a pacsun shirt with a lion on it and another with bob marley smoking a joint)
I gave you my advice, but if you don't have the ability to read it in context, here it is, with nothing extra: -Post pictures so that help may be given. -Do some general research, stop making these silly troll-esque statements without knowing jack. I'm harsh because I love
I think your mistake was the salon, if ive read that correctly, firstly i would assume you went to a normal salon and not a specific for dreads salon, which are at least a little better cause the have done them more regularly. all they do is put a load of crap product in your hair and convince you to continue using it, it's a business, we are not, the people on this site have nothing to gain by offering you advice so i recommend you take it, cause they wont push expensive product on you, in fact the most regular advice i see on this site is do nothing. post some pics let us have a look at the damage and in the meantime realise that you will not ever have perfect dreads, they dont exist, but they will be unique and beautiful as all are if you give them time to grow
Lol you make no sense. You clain to be Rasta, yet you can't be arsed to take it literally because you want dreads quickly, so you get them done at a salon and then moan that caucasian hair doesn't dread with neglect. I think you need to do some more research before you ask for dread advice, cus no-one will take you seriously. My best advice would be to do some more research on neglect, look at some of the forum member's dreads who went neglect (yes, there are white neglect dreads). Have a look at timelines on here. You'll find you won't get "nice smooth" dreads from neglect. Or any other method of dreading for that matter, unless you are uptight on maintenance, which I assume the Rasta thing doesn't approve of. With neglect, (I have no experience with this so I am only estimating) you will start to see formed dreads with a year or more. 6 months is nothing for neglect. You are trying to do this too fast. If you want it to be a spiritual journey, you can't rush it. Dreads take years. You should have known this before you jumped into the salon chair, or even considered them after reading the Rasta dread thing. So.. 1) Do some research and find out the time scale for caucasian neglect 2) If you want dreads NOWNOWNOW re-consider why you want dreads, and look at the alternative methods of dreading IN THE F.A.Q and see how they would go against your "Rasta" beliefs. Oh and the reason why you've got dandruff is your washing routine. You are using too much soap, and probably too often.
i think you just need to realize that its gonna take time! even with salon dreadies, you wont have perfection right away. so your scalp got itchy and flaky, so does everyone elses! im scratching mine right now! maybe you should take a break from washing it for a few days, let your natural scalp oils heal your scabs? its good to keep your dreadies clean, but you cant be washing it everyday. let it go. causcasion hair does dread on nelglect. 10 months later mine are starting to look more like dreadies, but still very loose. it takes TIME!!!!! my friend who has finer hair than me is taking even longer with the dreading process, but its doing it. im not rasta or anything, but i do believe that neglect is a very spiritual journey. having the loops is part of the fun! i enjoy my crazy hair in each step that they go through. stop getting so frustrated and chill. put on a beanie if you dont wanna look at your hair. good luck.
right! i had some gnarly ones about a month ago, but now they are settling down there are still some left though! just not as loopity.
so damn right. dude.... (if you're a dude) i've been fighting with mine for almost a year now. and i don't have nice, loose caucasian hair... i have very very kinky hair. and even now, they don't look like dreadlocks still...... this is a matter of patience and time. that's it! there will be itching (lots), there will be scalp flaking, its ALL PART OF THE PROCESS.
Neutrogena and Head and Shoulders make fantastic anti-dandruff shampoo. My hubs (who's white) LOVES the Neutrogena. You can't use it continuously though or it becomes less effective. I'd cut back on washing and then for every say....3rd time you shampoo use the Neutrogena.
this whole post is fucking bullshit. and so is the advice on using head and shoulders or neutrogena. those will leave residue and prevent locking. and the Worst Dready Advisor of the Year Award goes to...
And castille soap (which is what Dr. Bronners is) removes residue. So if she washes her hair say.....every 3-4 days on the 9th or 12th day she'd use the dandruff shampoo and tame her dandruff problem with minimal damage to her locs. The Award for Most Bitter Crazy Poster goes to.... By the way it flatters my ego immensely how you follow me around the board and post behind all my posts. OP the whole baking soda and apple cider vinegar thing yet? It doesn't work for everyone but lots of people have success with it. And all you can do is try something you haven't done before and if it has a negative effect on your dreadlocks or scalps stop it and try something else. Better to experiment than have to cut/comb out your locs ya know? I've seen my husband struggle with dandruff and it's no fun at all so I hope you figure something out. When he went out to sea the water was so harsh that between that and sunburn he has horrible sores on his head from scratching.
Well the thing is, for those who hang out in the dreadlocks section, your thoughtless posts are pretty much everywhere, it's more a situation of you following others, than others following you.
It was. Then again deployment in general is pretty disgusting. The food, the lack of time to shower, the constant work, the lack of communication with your family...it blows.
You...eh you showcase yourself to be what you are. Young, pathetic etc etc. No need to comment. I don't like you either puppy.
