I have to agree with you there Vig. I think it's cool that there's someone here who got their dreads a different way. We shouldn't be telling him what to do with his dreads especially since non of us are experts with afro hair.
My father is %100 black, his dreads were uniform and he never twisted them, and they looked a lot better than twisted hair. Just sayin'.
well my freind who just left here twisted his only once about 3 months back ..theyre not evfenb 1/4 inch but dreaded nicely on the other hand about a month ago in the doctors waitting room a guy asked me how often he should be twistinbg his, they were bout 6 inches long pretty flat looking and with hugew gaps between. he twisted every week for 8 months i told him that after the 1st twisting or 2 u didnt have to twist anymore and overtwisting can cause dammage... he then searches his head for a tiny lil stumpy dread and asks is that why this happened? he said he was twisting one day and it came off in his hand..he thought he was losing his hair or something (at 23) twisting didnt make em look any better (worse in fact) and most likely caused him to lose a dread...in under a year justr cause african hair dreads much easier doesnt mnean all africans know the best way to dread
And just because you've had dreads for 19 years doesn't make you an expert on all types of hair. No offence SE and I know you mean well but most of your advice these days are usually followed by scare tactics and I think that sometimes it's doing more harm than good.
I know 2 black people with dreads and they told me they twisted once and let them be. And they have picture perfect dreads
how much does it take to be an expert on dreads? anything complicated enough to require an "experts" help is already bullshit when it comes to dreads. hellodreadhead, if all that seems to be motivating you to protect the 'methods' is that there's someone 'making' dreads in a different way on this forum, where does that leave you with your arguments, who is doing more harm than good? and what scare tactics, its purely just letting people know what could be the downsides + real life examples. twisting the shit out of your dreads(hair) for ages is just stupid and you dont even need to have dreads to put that common-sense-puzzle together. nobody's telling anyone to do anything. just spreading knowledge, dont be frontin'
I ain't frontin' yo. It just seemed like he was trying to force him to stop doing what he was already doing. That's just how it came across on my screen anyway. If I completely missed the point then I hold my hands up and apologise.
force? hahaha nope anyone is free to do whatever they wanna do..but isnt it nice to know the consiquences before things get too screwed up? dont u wish someone told u latex in your hair was a bad idea before your head was a rubberized mess? ofcourse youd still be free to make your mistakes ..but at least then youd be aware of the possible outcxome and only have yourself to blame..noit misinformation as thngs are now misinformation is the greatest danger to dreads and is why 85% or more of the ppl finding us for the 1st time are begging for help to fix the mess made by the mistakes they were told were the right things to do
well I'm no expert ha but I think they would look nicer if you quit twisting, maybe palm rolled every now and then. They will look more natural and organic that way. And about the kids nursing till 5 thing, I nursed for a long ass time and I'm a fucking genius, so I guess that ends that discussion
^ pics or it never happened. HAHA Oh, I feel that that is mighty inappropriate for that post but I'm slapping my knee laughing at it.
You should listen to SE. He has proven his wisdom in the past by preaching to us the dangers of backcombing and crocheting. Millz, I like your hair and I think you should maintain your hair any way you like. What you are doing now clearly hasn't negatively affected your hair and though I am not an expert, I doubt it will in the future. Twist if you want, but remember to practice moderation.
