haha thanks, i love your dreadies too. What i've noticed though is that the people who have straight hair, their frizz actually looks nice, like yours. Mine just turns into little afro puffs lol. I know people say curly/afro hair is better for dreads, but I still have always thought straight hair looks nicer when its messy. Ill have to post a picture of my mega afro pre-dreads at some stage
heres a couple of really old pictures of my fro http://b7.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/00075/76/47/75197467_l.jpg http://b8.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/00075/84/67/75197648_l.jpg they'd be about 6 years old, back when i was still at school hehe
I looked around, using the links you provided and found no info on people losing chunks of their dreads due to crocheting, nor did I find any firsthand information on any type of damage from crocheting. There were a couple "I heard that it can damage....blah blah blah" but for all we know, they read that info here, from you.
I've only just read this thread... hmm well that turned out disappointingly unsurprisingly To the original poster...your frizzies look similar to mine...and not worth worrying about so much. It's up to you whether you crochet or not. I'd mostly see it as a giant pain in the arse, especially for the world's most low-maintenance hair-do. Can't you smooth them down with aloe gel, if they bother you that much? Or maybe, if any of the top/most visible ones are long enough, you could tie them to a dread with a bit of twine, just to hold them in one place until they find their way into a dread (doesn't take long).
Nice. Well i'm originally from Newcastle, but have recently moved down to Adelaide. I'm guessing your prob an NRL guy?
hahahahaha put in context, thats even less impressive: "And I was wondering... have you ever used a felting needle? I heard you can use them and they lock hair up well, but I also heard it can damage your hair pretty bad resulting in breakage of the lock. I don't want that to happen..." not only was that not a testimonial, it wasnt even about crocheting. nice try se.
I couldn't be bothered to point that out to him this morning, I also think I'd probably be wasting my time. I am still yet to see any real evidence of dreads breaking from crotcheting. So if anyone is out there reading this and experienced damage from doing it, post up please!
Yeh a few broken hairs don't equal dread loss, otherwise all the breakage of hair from scalp which occurs with natural shedding would result in our dreads falling off
so when I rip sections apart...does this not cause breakage???? Cause it sure does sound like it when I can actually HEAR them going...RIPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
has this dude even posted since his OP, every durn thread turns into a dang SE debate. Is there not anyway to iggy a member when you get tired of even seeing the endless rants???????
I do wish it wasn't always the sweeping statements like "crocheting will cause your dreads to break off, in all circumstances" (or something basically implying that and insulting the intelligence and judgment of those who've successfully crocheted) instead of maybe "it's hard to avoid breaking at least some hairs whilst crocheting, so mind you don't over-do it incase the damage ends up harming your dreads instead of helping them...and also just try not to control them so much and go with the flow".
