Event Horizon, probably because it was the first film like it I watched, so wasn't prepared for it, plus being on the TV it was late at night and I was on my own. I didn't find it scary as much, more shocking due to the quantity of gore and bad language (never been the sort who gets offended by a few swear words, but it was the first time I'd watched a film where at times barely a line was spoken without them). Seen loads of similar films since though, and would say it was pretty tame compared to a lot, although the latest was that one about Zombies (dawn of the dead?), which I can't say was disturbing at all.
Their was also some other film that I don't know what it was call, and can't remember a lot of due to being very tired and quite drunk at the time (was about 2 in the morning in a hotel room after my uncle's wedding. I only caught the last half an hour or so but it was quite disturbing. Creepy though that is rarther than shocking.

Yes! A criminally underated film. I found it very disturbing. It's also the small glimmer of hope in Paul Anderson's portfolio that let's me believe that he mightn't make a total fuck-up of Alien Vs Predator :)

I'm surprised no 1 has mentioned this yet - or maybe no 1 has seen it.
    It's pretty new, 2002 I think, it's called "Elephant"
..its a movie about a school shooting..i wont give it away, but, it's somewhat reminiscent of Columbine but in a different setting...it's really well done, it shows the same day the shooting happens from like 5 different people's perspectives and it all comes together really well.. It's a really sick, twisted movie, it had me disturbed for a while..At the same time(like MANY disturbing movies) it was done really well..I recommend it.

    Man Bites Dog.

Somewhere between the child suffication and rape mutilation scene, I started to realize- "By god, this is the most FUCKED UP FILM I've ever watched!!!!"

Death and death and more death and then rape and it seems real because it's a mock documentary... *shudders*

I'm only 16, but I think even a 35 year old would be haunted at least a little by that movie. Anyone else seen it? (it's actually French, with English subtitles... I can't remember it's origional title, unfortunatly, but I think it was made not to long ago.)

I thought boys don't cry was kinda distubing as well...nothing realy within the film , just the fact that it was based on a true story . There are people that with out thought do this kinda thing to people. Thats disturbing.

Ive never really found a movie disturbing but what is up with the ending to a clockwork orange? When he is eating in the bed...I don't get that part...it seems like theres some underlying mystery...i always get a feeling of suspense but I don't know why.

I agree that Ichi The Killer was a good movie. Although it isn't half as disturbing as some movies out there.
    Like August Underground's Mordum.
No one has mentioned it, and I'm quite surprised. It's gotta be the most disturbing movie ever made. I'm serious.
    Here's the official website
    http://www.toetagpictures.com/ch_mordum.php

And here is a good review (WARNING: the link below contains some disturbing screenshots form the movie. Don't click if you are squeamish)
    http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/Reviews/A-D/august_underground_mordum.html

Anyhow, this movie is NOT for the faint of heart... I had to turn it off within a half-hour, I couldn't watch the rest.

Jeremy Davies stars as convicted killer Charles Manson in this new television movie based on the true story of the August 1969 Tate/LaBianca murders, as chronicled in the bestselling book Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi. Almost 35 years ago Manson's followers, at his instruction, brutally massacred seven people over two consecutive nights in Los Angeles and scrawled bloody messages on the walls of the crime scenes. The first night, director Roman Polanski's wife, eight-month-pregnant actress Sharon Tate, was murdered along with coffee heiress Abigail Folger, Jay Sebring, Voytek Frykowski and Steven Parent. The second night, supermarket chain president Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, were found stabbed to death in their home.

In 1976, CBS broadcast the mini-series "Helter Skelter," which was the highest rated two-part made for television movie ever. That movie focused on the investigation of the gruesome slayings and the trial of Charles Manson. This new adaptation focuses on who Manson was, why he did what he did and how this morally corrupt ex-con persuaded the members of his Family to commit such horrifying acts.

Okay, in no particular order, here are a few that I find disturbing:

    - Natural Born Killers: The scene in which the girl's parent's are tied down to a bed, doused with gasoline and set on fire was very disturbing to me.

    - Swordfish: I nearly walked out when the woman in the bank in the beginning of the film was killed. She and the rest of the bank customers were forced to wear harnesses that had explosives and large ball-bearings attached to them (or maybe the bearings were part of actual mines or something) and they were set to detonate by radio control (automatic) if the hostages were brought X distance or more from the bank. One moron shitbrained "hero" cop didn't get the memo, and he tries to "rescue" the woman, who, screaming because she knows she's going to die and can't convince the asswipe cop, of course explodes and showers the street with C-4 and large steel balls moving at supersonic speed. Very disturbing image.

    - Dawn of the Dead (2004 remake): I used to almost fantasize about the "freedom" that we would experience if some cataclysm like, well, the dead returning to life, would befall society. Kind of like "camping" when the lights go out, or when power's out for a long time after a hurricane. Well, Dawn of the Dead changed all that, because of one simple fact: the fuckin' zombies in this remake can run REALLY FAST!!! Not as easy to get around 'em as it was in the older (now passe) zombie movies. It appears that the new reality is not gonna be as easy to survive.

    - In the Mouth of Madness: Imagine how horrifying it would be if you found your life was totally at the mercy of an author, whose book is your life, who could change anything at all about your reality at will.

    How about a disturbing novel?:

Wetbones, by John Shirley. It's about a psychotic rapist/murderer who has the psychic power to totally manipulate a person's nervous system. He can make you feel intense pleasure even from, say, cutting off your own nipples with a steak knife. A father's only daughter disappears, and he is on a mission to find her. Guess who has her!

Anyone else here read that one?

Shirley had something published online a few years ago. A variation on his Wetbones theme, there is an evil overlord dude living in a castle, with the power to transform people into plastic-encased, living statues, unable to even die. And what's worse, he puts arch-enemies together, encased in the same plastic sheath, to tear at each other's flesh! He has been on a campaign of paying to have various celebrities abducted and imprisoned thus. Through some link with otherdimensional beings, as well as technology, he can keep people suffering interminably while the beings siphon off their pain and mental anguish for sustenance. Really creepy. That's my big hot-button -- the idea that someone evil could hold you in permanent pain and even keep you from ever being able to die to be free of it.

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey
