black or white doesnt matter they fool alotta ppl with misinformation
hell i had black ppl who thought dreads had to be dirty or smeared in shit to dread
most black ppl believe my dreads are weaves not real hair
and if u think about it the product market for black hairs way more insane then for caucasion, all kinds of slimes and chemicals to straighten glue togetheer or otherwise gunk up the hair
1/2 the african americans u see have extentions held on with glue..yes glue
so id be surprised if they werent more gulible then mlst theyve been targetted by the industree so long afro sheen whats that slimy crap i forget harsh straighteners
and then tio add wax to help dread? african hair dreads so damn easy why would anyone ever put wax in african dreads>? it makes no sence african dreads are naturaly frizz free pretty much
    they tighten very fast
a freinds african baby had beautiful dreads at 2 weeks old (short yea but well formed tight beautiful locks that were growing nicely into a full head of dreads by the time he was 2 months old)
the very last thing african hair would need is wax..i mean seriusly whats the point? conditioning? vitamin e shae butter cocoa butter aloe all condition without buildup why the hell would u put waxx in?
hell wax wiould be 1000 times harder to remove from african dreads because they dread so damn tight thered be absolutely no way to get it out no matter how hard u tried
i talked to 1 african amerivcan woman who suggested wax andshe didnt have dreads but was a hairdresser..lol
i know tonns of africans whith dreads (african americans jamaicans and africans thats why i didnt specfify) and i dont think any one of them ever used wax
hell mumias nephew used to work with me and was growing his dreads naturaly
they were forming perfectly at less then 1/4 inch...with no wax

african hairs so easy to dread it needs no help at all and happens really fast..and totaly frizz free
the knots are far too tight to alow frizz

I know that. And as a African American I will only suggest what Caucasians might try. I don't have that hair on my head, and no one in my family has it so I'm not going to speak like I'm a master about something I'm not.

SE apparently chooses to do otherwise.

To address someone else's comment a lot of ppl with Afro texture will use aloe vera gel. The plain stuff with no additives from like Lily of the Earth or something like that.

blue cheese is moldy cheese in this case its moldy wax

id suggest posting in bcmommas herb thread for any herbal remedies to kill mold
    okr create a mold thread
i think soaking em in alcahol should do it but im not sure and it can seriusly dry your scalp and youd be explosive too
straight vinagasr may or may not do the trick..but woukld have to be undiluted and soaked totaly a good while it'll maje the dreads extremely soft
in addition to the mold issue tho u still got the cause of the mold...wax.. u gotta attack both full force to get rid of as much wax as u possiblyt can
definately get bcmommas advice on ity though shes verty wise and knows her shit
ive never waxed or had mold so i cant even give advice based on experience just a rough educated guess at what i believe should help

teatree also can help i think but u would nbeed way too much and any amount that would be effectibve would dry thye scalp badly
if the molds not visible in the wax your lucky asu caugfht it early
if the wax looked fuzzy or green/blue youd be in trouble and wax could have lesd to your dreads needing to be cut to get it out
but have no fear we'll do all we can to save em

start agressive wax removal...and keeo at it long long long adfter u think u got it all.. as u now know it cajn be there causing probs long after u think u got it all out

while u do that whichj hopefully will take some mold along with it (and if u use extreme hot water carefully the excess heat should kill mold..it may still be there but at least when dead wont spread) then have bcmomma put together an herbal something or other to make sure its dead and help remove it

I am not defending anyone. I am simply stating my experience. I do appreciate your concern and admire how much passion you obviously have over the matter.
I do feel that I am wax free...and if not . Shit who cares...I mean come on really!
So if I begin to use aloe and I fuck up my locks and they loosen to all holy hell because I over used...Im gonna make a SE SUCKS vid...okay!!!!!

Which kind of cheese ...really??? Now that cracked me the hell up!!!!

worse thing that can happen with aloe is they loosedn up if u really overuse..wash em once and the aloes gone..the end..hell just rince em and the aloes gone
unlike wax that is next to impossible to remove

but hey try the aloe and see
it wouldnt be added to so many health and beauty products if it didnt do some good

I've used aloe vera after washing my dreads 1-2 times a week since I started them 4 years ago. It does not loosen them and it keeps my dry hair moisturized & healthy.

I'll do some research on the mould issue....

Just been looking through the Google Analytics for my dread blog...
Only been subscribed to it since January 26th this year, but since then one of the most popular search terms to bring people to my site has been "waxing dreads". I checked and typed it into Google - my site comes up on the first page! Yay :D It doesn't bring up my anti-wax post specifically, but the post that does come up points in the right direction, and at least there is something other than KB and DHHQ coming up in response to the "waxing dreads" search.

    Yay :)

Nice work Amy. I just checked it out. I think I was saying before I ran into your blog before finding these forums.

Yeh you did :) Thank-you. I've been so surprised that people are actually visiting it. I really thought I'd just be waffling into cyberspace like the rest of our self-obsessed emo-blogging generation :p Had about a thousand hits in the past three weeks :)

Hopefully it's being of some use to someone somewhere, and preventing waxy catastrophes too. I feel kinda bad about those first weeks when I was using wax and singing its praises...hopefully not too many people were reading it back then! I went back through all my old pro-wax posts and put up a big "DON'T USE WAX!" warning, linking to more recent posts. Kinda feel I have a greater responsibility to get things right now that lots of people are seeking advice there.

I know this girl who has backcombed dreads in there infancy and wax used very sparingly helps her keep them together, myself though, no wax for me.

it wasssssss in september, cause i combed them out at the end of sept, so i spent most of that month trying to save them =[

and mcraver, yeah.. wax is useful for keeping newbies together, its just when it gets smeared/caked on, 3x a day, for 6 months.. (im speaking from experience, =[)

this current set o' dreadies that ive got, im ganna try and just leave them. no wax, no lock peppa, no palm rolling etc etc

Will aloe hold newly backcombed locks together for beginners who chose to go that route?
That is why I used wax, not for its conditioning properties.

Amy (sorry for the double post) do you feel that the way you began your locks has hindered them any? Do you think you would be where you are at now in progress without the method you chose? I mean compared to pics of folks who have gone natural and are at the same age as yours? Not sure what I am trying to say. How do you really feel about your locks..or are you just jumping on the issue cause if you even mention wax in here you are doomed to the fiery pits of hell.

i think aloe will condition baby dreadies too much, so its not a good idea to use it on new new new dreadies (i think.. i dont know)
