oh amy i didnt mnean to make u go around pulling your dreads apart im so sorry i just meant its possible u did get most ouit but also possible theres still some in and was interested to see wghat changes would occur if u did some more agressive wax removal (wich certainly could do no harm..just as a precaution and to see if things didnt impriove after)
the easiest way to see if you still have wax in your hair is to drench them in the hottest water you can stand...try not to hit your scalp...the idea is to heat up the wax as much as possible. then ring them out with your hands as tight as u can, if your dreads feel sticky then guess what...wax.
Just gonna link a couple of things: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=351088&f=209 http://dreadlocktruth.com/community/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1745 If you find any other useful waxy threads around, link them in this thread, then it'll keep everything together and maybe create a useful resource
I assume S.E means, once the wax is out (like in my case) they instantly starting knotting up alot tighter
Hey I do have a question about baking soda. Has anyone else noticed a film or build up on the scalp after using it. I was scratching my head and had shit under my finger nails. EWWWWWW I have never had a problem with dander. Its not flaky like dander...its filmy...tacky like...and looks a whole hell of a lot like baking soda. I rinse extra extra well. And before some dumbass says that the wax has now sunk into my skull and has resurfaced please save it. So if the baking soda is leaving residue on my scalp..is it also leaving residue in my hair???? Im so damn boggled over what to use to wash my hair with!!!!!!!!!!! Let me add I use it twice a week...is that too much perhaps?
lol at the wax bit. To the rest...I've only done it twice and didn't notice a problem...so, dunno, sorry It's almost certainly all the wax's fault though
callie! i have exactly that problem its left kinda flaky bits, and theyre kinda gungy, but now my hairs dry, it looks more like dandruff =/
Callie, do you fully disolve the baking soda in water before washing with it? Or do it some other way? I do it like that, in a bowl of hot water, disolve a load of it then slowly pour it over my head while rubbing roots/scalp. Then leave it there for a bit, and rinse. I just scratched my head to test and I don't think there is anything under my fingernails. Although I read somewhere about different water types affecting it? Unless that was something else. If it was baking soda, I'm pretty sure it was hard water that makes the problems, which is what I have so.. I really don't know.. lol
Yeah I use about 1/2 cup baking soda, 2-3 teaspoons of seasalt mix it up in a tub with hot water and pour it over my head in the shower. Maybe it is my water. Hard to make soap lather..like bubble baths, so that means it is hard right???? Think Im going to lay off it a bit to see if that is what it is. Im about tempted to taste it since it has no smell. Ewwwwwww
lol! taste it!!! Yeah I think that means it's hard. Do you get quite dry skin after a shower? Mines horrible, but it went really nice when I stayed in an area with soft water.
Haha, I kept getting salt and stuff in my mouth. I wonder if we were washing our hair at the same time..
Might just be too much alkaline stuff then...if you've got hard water, you've got the calcium carbonate in the water and you're adding to that the sodium bicarbonate. Maybe a dilute vinegar rinse to finish off would make a difference?
It is salty...yes indeedy I did a little taste test. My god this is nutts!!! So I am asuming now that it is the soda and my hard water. Damn! Just when I think I am finally getting something right! Yeah I do get really dry skin after showers. Thought it was just the winter thing. Durn how do you soften water?
