How long are we really going to let history be a justification for acting immoral? Because blacks were slaves in history that's a justification for gang bashing? There ain't a slave still living today, so no I don't think it's a justification to belt someone up for something that they didn't do and over what never happened to them.

And I really think this galvanises much of the political world too. Everybody screams black and blue about moving forward and progression, but we're stuck in the last 150yr history which literally dictates our behaviour. What a load of rubbish.

I believe it all really comes down to race. I'm sure that for some it comes down to poverty and such but it doesn't speak for their home countries where they are left to their own devices.

I'm only going to address the basketball part of this post. "Seem to dominate"??? they comprise ~75% of the NBA and ~16% of the US population.


Maybe it varies in more rural states but practically every single school I've seen, ghetto or suburban and many parks, have basketball courts. If anything in better areas, there is better upkeep to the courts. You guys really don't think that white kids, which by your implications presumably have better opportunities and more money to spend, don't have the same impetus to love basketball and want to become multi-millionaires playing the sport? I'd like to see the demographics of white players in college basketball, I'm sure many of them have intentions on making it to the NBA.


You guys don't find it slightly peculiar that in our lifetimes, there has been only one white and a few mixed NBA player to win the annual Slam Dunk Contest? You think this can all be explained due to social class and stuff? You don't ever watch basketball and wonder why the top handful of players that all "jump out in the building" in terms of their athleticism are all African American or Blacks from other countries? While the White and European players that are really good are considered "skilfull" rather than "athletic"?

Well, it could be the social class. Just like when a black person is insulted for their race its often predominantly just to get at them, not because the one doing it is coming from an inherently racist conviction. And like you have argued many times as well: black people just as often get treated wrong by cops and such because of their (perceived) social class, not only their racial background. Although the majority of both those situations get portrayed as coming from racist motivation.

 

Which countries specifically and what are the poverty rates, what is the stability of their government, what is their history and how does it affect their current socioeconomic situation as a whole, is there any ethnic strife, has there been any outside interference from other countries, any other contributing factors that could contribute to their high crime rate and instability?
