Sad & sadder: 1000's of people with university degrees escape from dk to London, because their skincolor disqualify them from working at factories. Even for me, as a dane, it's almost impossible to imagine how deep embedded racism is in my country.
We had colonies at three West-Indian islands. During all my history-lessons at school, I was always told, that Denmark was much, much different to other colonial powers - "we didn't treat africans bad - we were spreading high human principles in all our colonies - we we're there to help them being civilized". When I try to tell my rightwing countrymen about facts that could help them to expand their minds, I'm at best called "a clown", at worst "a traitor". That's the wall of ignorance I run toward, again, again, again, again, again, and again, in the year of 2005.
I have always been wondering if that could be the whole true(?). Until recently I found out that Denmark was among the most tyrannical and racist colonial powers at all. Danish colonialists at our colony Gold Coast in coastal western Africa was treating people like commodities, in a more disgusting manner than any other colonial power. Danish ships didn't mind to throw slaves over board as ballast.
I've never heard that during my history lessons at school. Same about Greenland... It's hard to imagine how heavy impact systematic manipulation of historical facts and common institutionalized cultural brainwashing actually works. Many people at this forum wants to tell something good about their countries - I'm here to tell you all the dark and evil taboos of mine - you can read about the good stuff in tourist brochures.

    love and understanding,
    noose.

That's what i also think, i can't understand how people can be so proud to be Spanish or whatever their nationality is, i like being fair, i prefer being critical and denunce our stupidity and then when you see the good things you find them much more good. But in general to be proud of your nationality drives directly to nationalism and then to racism and xenophoby.

God, my English is getting really worse lately.

Excactly. Ofcourse there are things I like about my country, but it feels wrong to stress those aspects, without mention the darker aspects. I'm ashame to be a dane these days, but I also want to emphasize that there are danes that do not think and act according to the fascist tendencies that reigns my country right at the moment.

    love,
    noose.

p.s. no, your english is not getting worse. You've said that before, I remember, but that's simply not true. :D
