Hmmm I greatly enjoyed Dance of death actually. Haven't heard the new one yet. And I like Load, Reload and S&M as well, though St. Anger was a sad waste of effort.
Yep,Dance Of Death was great..I liked Paschendale and Rainmaker very much..Have you seen the Death on the road tour??When they played Paschendale and Dance of Death live here it was absolutely outstanding..it's way better live and Adrian Smith solos are better..Not all heavy metal band can play songs like these and that's why Maiden has something special..Metallica did great albums too,but now,it's time to retire I think..the upcoming album may confirm this opinion..
i am fucking appalled by the poll standings. and severedheadstoner - you have the coolest screen name on here besides me. great play on words from a great song by cannibal corpse
Pantera stole their sound????? Dude what world are you living on? Metallica sold out, but that was way after Dave left. Slayer still is rockin out, and Megadeath shouldnt even be in the same cat. as the other three bands. Well, maybe since Metallica did puss up, nothing really good has come from them since the black album, and even that is stretching.
Old topic. I voted Megadeth. I LOATHE all Metallica. Mustaine was the only decent aspect that band ever had imo. Slayer, well, I like everything up to Seasons Of The Abyss, but they get old pretty quick. I can't stand anything Pantera has ever done. Megadeth, everything up to Countdown Of Extinction was pure gold. Peace Sells and Rust In Peace are the epitome of thrash.
The only band listed that doesn't suck right now is Pantera, though HELLYEAH sucks balls and Down's first album beats the shit out of II. Metallica have been trying out a "load" of different albums, but their thrash days are likely not coming back, I expect the new album to suck as much as Megadeth and Slayer's latest cds. Megadeth has lost all edge, vocal melodies are so shitty they're unbearable and riffs either should have been abandoned, or left in their original songs. You know you're out of ideas and boasting a huge ego when you cover your own song. Slayer have been trying to play the same song since the 80's, only difference now is that the song has turned to shit. The riffs go nowhere, the solos sound like shit and tom's voice is nearing present day hetfield quality.
What an easy question. Vocal melodies and memorable riffs. Tom's getting lazy and just yelling out words, which, I suppose is done better than what dave mustaine is doing now, singing paragraphs in a weird melody and 1200 vocal tracks. But still.. The riffs just aren't what they once were, SHOW NO FUCKING MERCY.
I went for Slayer in the end.... but it was a close one with Pantera. I chose Slayer over Pantera because [are you ready Metallideth]... ... there are marginally more Slayer songs that get my juices going than there are Pantera songs that do the same... if that makes sense. Unfortunately, Pantera's reign was brought to an untimely end so there are less tracks to choose from. The Slayer tracks that swung the vote are all from the earlier albums [up to Seasons in the Abyss] so I haven't based my decision on current material... although if it was I would probably still go for Slayer from the three remaining as Metallica has lost the plot and Megadeth didn't have much to lose to start with [apart from Peace sells...]! Oooh scandalous! Fight!, Fight!, Fight!, Fight!
I definitely don't see the current slayer as being any better than any of the other current bands at all. Washed up.
Oh, hey, I finally voted! It was Metallica, because apart from them (and some Kreator and Deströyer 666 if you count them), I've never really been into thrash metal. Hey, alt-number combinations finally work!
I think I will stick with Metallica for this....Purely because I worship them....I have to admit that some of the stuff on St. Anger was not upto the mark, but nonetheless, Frantic, St. Anger & Some kind of Monster are classics in my opinion. Other than that, songs like Enter Sandman, for whom the bell tolls, turn the page, master of puppets etc etc etc are all metal anthems!!! I also like Slayer because they never showed even the slightest signs of "selling out."
