The correct answer is because Steve Harris is boss.

    Megadeth is not that great...
    nor is Pantera

Slayer is really good, but doesn't have enough variation if you ask me
    Metallica really sucks nowadays

Iron Maiden wins for having a nice solid distinct sound, evolving that sound over time, and longevity

Maiden hasn't been evolving for a long time, you get the same song structure with practically the same basslines for the past 3 albums, and yes, they have started to sound more and more like Yes. Plus, the last 5 albums have only had 1 album's worth of good songs.

The time Iron Maiden released great albums is past, but if they were on this list I'd choose them. Beats the other four in my opinion. Ah well, it's all a matter of taste...

I'd have to say slayer with pantera at a very close second.

they're all unearthly and despicably kickass in their own right.
    let them be.

I think you're onto something. Metallica is great also, but Slayer... nothing compares to Slayer.

Pantera and Megadeth: not my style. Uck, in fact.

I was thinking if dime was still around a show with these four bands on the bill would kick so much ass. It would be summed up in one word. Badass.

I'm thinking that if Dimebag was still around that 3/4th's of pantera's fanbase wouldn't exist and most people would be shitting on him for creating damageplan.

Regardless, I'd still be in that 1/4th section who knew and loved pantera before all the bad shit went down.

Man, of course Pantera gained more popularity after Dimebag died, but don't act like they didn't had a lot of fans before. At least here they were already wellknown.

Note: 3/4 of their fanbase is pretty legit if you check out the album sales worldwide. before/after.

Pantera was hugely popular because just as Metallica got soft, Pantera got angry and harder in their music. I'm not a fan but I think "Cowboys From Hell" was the album everyone wished Metallica made.

Nah, Metallica couldn't have made an album that good. I'm not even into thrash metal that much but Cowboys from Hell is just fantastic.

Sure. I'm more of a Metallica fan, every other weekend, so I can see your point. I like Metallica's sense of melody more, but after AJFA it was kinda downhill.

I got the Damageplan CD Just befor the show when Dime got shot. Trust me.they had plenty of fans. Most of whom also were and still are Pantera fans.

I'm glad I was'nt able to got to the show that night even thought I have a ticket that never got used. I sold the other three that I had to a friend and he ended up going. I ended up having to work that night.

Prior to dime's death, damage plan ratings were HORRIBLE and loads of people hated it.

I wouldn't say that CFH was the album everyone wished metallica made, but metallica's made better than CFH (See Kill, Ride, Puppets).
