Yeah I know what you mean. But I'm hoping that there will be some kind of "revolution" in music pretty soon here. I mean it seems more people are starting to listen to good music these days...So who knows? It'd be good for any band I'm in cause that's the type of stuff we play .
I don't see any revoultions happening, I think everything has been done. I can't imagine there being a complete new whole genre...but..that would be awesome, no matter what it was.
Well what i'm thinking is that it's just gunna move in a circle. Like Rock n' Roll and Blues Rock and all that stuff are gunna catch on.
^^(to vilekyle) hehe, did you know in the late 1800s a guy running the patent office (i think in the US) said "There is nothing more that can be invented."
Windham Hell basically created a new metal genre when they released South Facing Epitaph, and then went on to perfect said genre with two subsiquent releases. Few have been willing or even capable of following in their footsteps, but it was pretty revolutionary while it lasted (one of the two band members recently died). Nevertheless, their work is highly recommended. Atheist, Cynic, Carbonized and, to a lesser extent, Pestilence also offered a new take on a metal in the early 90's. Namely, the (in)famous prog/jazz style that was almost universally misunderstood even at its peak. Granted, it has since degenerated into sound-alike drivel, but it was still a freshly blazed trail just 15 years ago. ...and then there's what Trey Azagthoth brought to the table via Morbid Angel, but I don't quite feel up to describing one Man's Romanticized take on testing and then deliberately perverting the limitations of rock music, all while retaining a sense of antiquity.
PsyGrunge, you just named off alot of my favorite bands. I just find metal and really heavy metal relaxing when I'm stoned. You can just lsten to it so much better and appreciate the music much better. Most people hear metal and all they listen to is the screaming and not the badass guitar and drums. I love fucking slayer. They are so fucking good while stoned. Got blazed at their concert. South of Heaven is such a good song.
Yeah, Slayer does kick ALOT of ass, Im surprised with their new album, its actullay quite good other than Toms vocals..its the best thing they have put put since 1994 IMO. I saw slayer in grade 8. What a wicked show
I bet just the change of lyrical style in modern metal back to that sort of melodical and unique singing would set things off again for those with the stones to play old school metal.
Metal does kick ass!!! I like Testament,Slayer,Metal Church,Judas Priest,Maiden,Sabbath etc...I don't really listen to it stoned though.I should more often! \m/
yeah, metal drumming with double bass licks and "faster-than-a-chicken-running-through-an-ethiopian-village" drum fills is hard to beat. it's technically challenging, part of a great exercise plan and an adrenaline booster. metal guitar is patriotic, especially full on guitar solos using different methods, sound effects, etc. as for the metal screaming vocals, it only enhances the expression of oneself as part of a metal band. the instrumentalists do their part, a sense of individuality is found which comes together with other key aspects of the band to form one complete sound.
I love metal as well, everything from underground genres to classic metal. Opeth is really good, as well as Sabbath-inspired stoner metal like Kyuss.
