Hey, I'm one of those Christians who doesn't believe in an afterlife or rewards in exchange for being good. I believe in Jesus' example and teachings because I find the message of unconditional, non-judgmental love compelling. They give meaning and guidance to my finite existence here on earth, and in the Kingdom of Heaven which is already present if we see it. I lost my parents and my brother, but it hasn't diminished my faith.

As a Christian, I really appreciate your post. You share the true spirit of Jesus, which is often more apparent in pagans and atheists than among those who wear the name on their tea shirts. I hope you don't find it rude or a put down for me to mention that you misspelled the word "pagan". If you are one, you might want to get that right.

Thank you i did not see the miss spell of the word pagan and it was an accident. I said what i did because i do not condone people of any faith to bash each others Beliefs. You may not agree with them but you don have to.

what an asshole !! you do no favours to any atheists saying shit like that, your very mixed up its actually better to be an atheist than hold extremist views like that, me personnaly....i beleive in something but its certainly no where near the same thing you beleive in, people with the brain capacity of you mate should just stop persuing any religion because you obviously just dont get it, meybe whatever the first cause was would have mercy on an ignorant person rather than somebody that does well to devide the gap between spiritual people and the versa, seriously man give it up

I grew up in a not very religious Jewish family and knew nothing about Jesus. At some point, I became quite interested in such things as history, spirituality, religion, philosophy, the nature of consciousness, utopian communities and unconditional love. My interest led me to studying the teachings of Buddha, Jesus and other spiritual icons because I wanted to find out what love was about. I also have a life-long love and interest in the sciences.

I have done the best I can to keep an open mind. In the case of Jesus, I had absolutely nothing to reject. I came to the conclusion that Jesus was a very cool and righteous being who undoubtedly had a great sense of humor. He was also talking about some truly amazing and powerful stuff, and his teachings were and are so powerful that, after 2000 years, they still are being played out on a global scale.

Admittedly, many people have done horrible things and claimed they were doing it in the name of God, Jesus, love, freedom, democracy, success, money, etc. The fact that scumbags, both believers and non-believers, do rotten things and claim they are doing it in the name of something doesn't make it so.

What I'm saying is that some of you may not know what the J-Man was talking about as much as you think you do. In my experience, I can't find anything that's more powerful, exciting, interesting or important than love, and I still feel like I'm a beginner at knowing about love.

It's easy to point fingers at religions and a lot of other things, and, much of the time, they deserve that kind of scrutiny. If any of y'all want to talk about the teachings of Jesus, I'm more than willing.

Very articulate and heartfelt words. I am also a beginner at knowing... or maybe just beginning to learn what love is.

Jesus did have a great sense of humor. I love his response to Judas when Judas kissed him as to signal to the soldiers who to capture. "Judas, do you betray the son of man with a kiss?". I was thinking about it lately, and that's actually a very hilarious thing for Jesus to say given the situation.

def zeppelin, Thanks for the response! I see a lot of humor and other insights into some of the things that Jesus said and did that I've seen others be puzzled about.

There's a story about Jesus beating on a fig tree with a stick because the tree didn't produce fruit, and, as the story goes, the tree died. I've seen people say that this is an indication that Jesus was mentally unbalanced or something like that. From what I can tell, Jesus was just being a bit sarcastic. He was saying to those around him something like "You want food? OK, let's get some food, but whipping on a fig tree is not going to make it produce figs. Instead of complaining about the way things are, do what it takes to put dinner on the table."

Those who recorded the story and passed it down through the centuries may have not understood the point Jesus was making, but it makes sense to me.

    Take care!

Metaphorically or physically? Because if physically I think he'd get Jesus to do it.
