I agree! And it's far worse for your hair (there's actually quite a lot of crap in all those beaty products)

indeed, Dreads are friendly, unless u have lice,

A m8 of mine had long (not dreaded) but messy hair and loads of piercings but he got a job that paid £12 a hour and had it all removed, which must suck but if the moneys good i supose he dint mind

Well this isn't really a myth or legend, but I thought it was pretty funny. When I was sat in French class there was this girl sat behind me and she was talking to her friend about my hair (she thought she was being discreet), and she goes "How did she get it like that? I heard you have to microwave it or something." Oh man... I collapsed... Now if ever I get some straight-laced disapproving brat going "Ewwww how did you DO that!?", I explain that it's simple - you just microwave your hair.

I had dreads awhile back... I definitely miss them and plan on dreading up again but as a promise to my mom, I have to wait until I've taken all of my senior pictures. If she's willing to let me get them again, I can comprimise as well.

And here's a picture of my first set just minutes after I completed them :)

no, you can brush them out, but from what I've heard it is really painful, takes a lot of time and your hair ends up in fairly bad condition. so no you don't have to shave your head :) you can definitely salvage most your hair if you have the patience to brush it out!

my friend had dreads for about 6 months before she brushed them out. Pitty though because they were really nice. Anyways, she used heaps of conditioner and lots of effort but got rid of them. In the end her hair looked normal. Could'nt tell she had dreads.

i was working on one (just one) of my dreads just now. i have the rest put up in pigtails. and i'm backcoming, and it's sticking out straight in front of me. and my dad came home and said, "what are you doing to your hair?!" and i just said, "dreadlocks" and walked away. and my dad's going to take me to pick up my prescriptions, and he was like, "you're not going to go out with your hair looking like that are you?!" as if i give a shit.... i could have dog shit stuck in my hair and i'd still "go out." but i had to say, "no, i'm just working on it right now." because my dad won't understand... so now, when i finally got the ambition up to work on my dreads while i do stuff, i have to forego it and put my hair back up. it'll probably be another week before i want to bother to do anything to my hair. ugh!

My parents dont want me to get dreads but i think it may be because its a got the whole rastafarianism (sp?) thing with it... Maybe when i tell 'em about the Hindu origins they'll change their minds... But it took me AGES to get my hair cut (lol i told em i had lice and NEEDED to cut it) so i doubt this will be any easier...
