Okay, so back to the original topic then: Maybe this has been stated and maybe not, I'm too lazy to read the whole thread, but if it's such an issue, why not put warnings on certain foods? Warning: this food contains a lot of shit you shouldn't eat and if you do you might get fat. That makes a helluva lot more sense.

Personally, I think it's all a lot of nonsense anyway. Speaking as someone who is overweight, I am and always was fully aware about the threat my being fat has on my health. The problem always was my willingness to change my entire lifestyle to deal with it. I'm finally starting to work that out (I lost 15 lbs since November!), but it's not because of other people telling me how fat I am. If anything, that's part of what made me put it off. Frankly, I just got tired of getting out of breath by walking up the stairs. This whole thing aint going to work because getting in shape is a tremendous commitment, probably more so than quitting smoking, and that has to come from the person, not from some "hey, you're fucking fat!" ticket on a pair of blue jeans.

Really, that proves my argument on the matter....you don't think size 12 is obese at all...neither do I..... to some people depending on their stature a size 12 is too skinny, some just the right size and some may be medically termed as obese.... my point is just that, just like you said that there can't be a label on food saying it could cause you to be obese b/c they don't know how it will be comsumed they also can't put a label like that on clothing, because they don't know peoples body types. The reason the size 12 reference is in here at all is because that is the US size equivilent that would start recieving such obesity warnings.

Also, it wouldn't matter to me wether you were makeing the comments you made weighing 90lbs or 500lbs... I didn't mean to bring up your body type as a bash on you, I was just pointing out that not everyone has the same body type.... which goes back to the fact that it wouldn't make sense to put those lables in clothing.....

I think, if they want to start warning about obesity, they should do so at the doctor...yes, unfortunatly not everyone can offord health insurance or to go to the doctor, but when you go and get weighed, maybe it'd be beneficial for them to mention... "By the way, I've noticed with your medical history and body type, you might be headed toward becoming obese, lets talk" Yeah, no one wants to hear that, but if it really is an issue, I'd rather hear it at the doctors office than read it in my pants. The same then could go the other way, if someone were too skinny given their frame and medical history, a DOCTOR could tell them that they are getting unhealthy

I agree. A couple of years ago I was pretty damn fat (I'm not gonna lie) and my doctor gingerly brought it up and sent me to a nutritionist.

Even at planned parenthood they will go over your weight with you. The healthy families act here always offers free nutritional counseling...much better than Donatella Versace saying 'vooouuu vook rather vhaaatttt' on her clothing labels.

I mean its just a number and if if it makes you feel better, ( and earns me a commision ) I'll call the rag a size 6 for the large shopper.

Step right up to the register! Would you like to apply for a store charge card ?

honestly, the last time i was a size 12 i weighed 130. i was in my peak of physical health. i was a weightlifter and spent at least and hour on cardio (stairmaster, etc) a day. it's an insult, it's a disparagement, and for someone on the verge of giving up because it's coming off slowly (me, from time to time) it's something to put you over the edge of giving up. no one cares how hard it is. no one cares that a childhood problem is something that is something you eat shit over every day of your life.

I worked pretty damn hard to get back to a 12 too and my efforts would be thwarted if my jeans had a degrading label on them.

wow that might CAUSE some suicides...thats absolutly ridiculous....BMI is bullshit if u ask me.....a perfectly healthy Samoan woman can be a size 24/26(3X) and have not an ounce of fat on her, just muscle...I am totally disgusted that because someone wears a certain size they must be fat and unhealthy..

LOL. I can't help but think that some people are in denial. That would be hard to keep up if their pants had a tag that said "fat ass" or "wide load".

Size 12 doesn't seem fat to me. However if it's the national average then maybe it is borderline. Can't imagine the average not being overweight from what I have seen in this country.

If it's true then it's the exception to the rule. Why have a conversation about the 1%? The other 99% are just eating too much.

The point of this thread is that labels will not be helpful or cause any weight loss...they will just be insulting, which seems to be the point of your post.

What an asinine statement. Because people who are overweight aren't judged enough, you have to go and shove your take on it in our faces too.

Thanks, a lot. I really needed that. It's attitudes like that that makes people hate themselves and adds into suicidal thoughts, rather than actually being helpful in any way shape or form. Negativity doesn't help.

some people are just idiots and assholes...

on a positive note, despite my inability to really go out and exercise like i want to, what with the blizzard and packing and housework, eating more throughout the day has me down 2" pounds. that's WITHOUT exercising and still drinking some beer OVER THE HOLIDAYS. fucking rad.

I wear size 16 and I'm about 40-50lbs overweight. On a 5'1" frame it shows. You've seen pictures of my face.

And I really don't think this is an appropriate thing to "kid" about. It's pretty fucking obvious that people are conscious about their bodies and going around insulting them about it in a general sense and then trying to pass it off as a joke is... not appropriate in my book.
