Alot of meat substitutes only contain protein and taste nothing like it! There a good source of protein but I guess it is slightly hypocritical eating something that is supposed to taste like an animals flesh, I stick to completely vegan veggie burgers. Iv heard you can get quorn chicken burgers, it slightly gross's me out though.

I think meat subs are great. Sometimes I crave certain things like hot-dogs, or a burger, and I personally love these substitutes. . . I don't have to feel guilty about eating them! And I am getting my protein!

I think they're good. i love veggie burgers and the fake chicken patties are friggen delicious. My favorite brand is Boca.(I will admit that the boca cheeseburgers are disgusting.) Have you ever tried the meat substitutes at Flat Top Grill? fantastic.

I eat a lot of meatless/vegetarian foods, and I'm not even a vegetarian....yet. so if that tells you anything.

I like meatless meatballs for vegan stroganoff. I like chickenless nuggets for vegan boneless buffalo wings. I like Boca meatless ground beef for vegan spaghetti and meatsauce. If tofu counts, I love using it to make scramblers and stir fry. I've made my own seitan a couple times, but haven't been impressed enough to do it again... I've had more luck making my own veggie burgers (oat and walnut- very tasy) than buying them. I've never been able to eat a store-bought veggie burger without smothering it with barbecue sauce, whereas the ones I make myself are good enough for just a little ketchup and mustard (with the usual lettuce tomato and onion of course).

All that said, I'm not a vegan, but I have a lot of vegan recipes and such from when I worked at the Farm Sanctuary and lived vegan for a month. It's definitely got its health benefits, so I try to eat vegan or veggie at least a couple times a week, and I've cut down on milk a whole lot, since the more milk I drink, the more allergies I tend to have.

those buffalo nuggets are great! they are helping me go veggie, and they've made it possible for my boyfriend to be meat free for eight months today! i love how spicy they are. they're more moist than real chicken but less greasy and without the disgusting gristle and fat. i also like to get the boca meat crumbles and put it in stuff like ricearoni and zatarain's and hamburger helper.

I actually agree with this. I see the ones I eat as plants and plants only! Just a bit processed (hence theyre a rare treat)
I wouldnt eat the ones that are made to taste or smell like meat though, because I dont see meat as food. Why would I want a mock up of it?

Nutritionally theyre rarely much good either, so I keep it to a minimum

I used to eat certain brands of veggie burgers even before I became a vegetarian just because I liked the taste. Now, I prefer making my own if that's what I choose to eat. I don't like most chicken substitutes, and I really hated the mock steak strips. And don't even get me started on the fake bacon. Not cool. But to each their own.

If the burger reminds me of hot lunch day at elementary school, forget it.
I do get vegan bocas as they nuke-ro-wave well enough to be stashed at work.
Good portion control for me as well.
I loved steak strips by Morning Star and have to figure out a home made version now.

For some, it can be comfort: I crave sloppy joes in winter. I have a TVP version and I'm working on the lentil-based "snobby joes" from Vegan With A Vengeance.
If Green Giant making a burger, even with egg/milk ingredients, gets a few less cow burgers on plates, I'm happy enough.

Really, this doesn't disturb me at all. My boyfriend (who is omni) says it is weird, but I always thought it made perfect sense to me. I mean I've only been a vegetarian for a little over a year, so maybe it is just because I'm still a newbie, but I still think burgers and ribs smell good. I would never eat them of course. Maybe it is because I became vegetarian for way different reasons than most people.

My issue with the fake meat products is that they are disgusting and in my opinion taste like crap. With the exception of Morningstar Farms veggie crumbles (I put in chili or tacos) and some of their other products (veggie burgers, chickn patties) I think that I'd rather skip the fake meat. I mean I had a tofurky at Thanksgiving and that was ok. But I can't do the "lunchmeat" or the hot dogs, or the italian sausage. It all tastes fake and not worth it. I'd really rather just fry up some mushrooms and onions with tofu and call it a day.

That is just me of course. :)
