we've been dealing with a very similar sort of situation over here for years. you can get the AA (most basic 2 year college degree) from all sorts of shady places. it means nothing if you can't do a job. if they meet the basic requirements for approval by the state, these a-levels are no more threatening to anyone else except they can't really brag about it like they want to. and no, verseau, i don't like mcdonalds, either, but sometimes you have no choice. morals have a tendency to go right out the window when you've got mouths to feed. as well they should.
MamaK , well I wound up on the dole for a while. I went to a poncey University and got a poncey degree but when I went for jobs it was all" well Im not giving it you cos u'll leave as soon as u can" OR the job went to someone with a rich mummy and daddy who was friends with the recruiter. I actually learned a huge amount on the dole ( about business , skills and other stuff). Had I have taken a crap job , Id have benefited fuck all. The point is , parasitic employers like MCDonalds want the world to suit them- deskilling , de nutritionalising , de-souling , dehumanising etc etc.- and simply to profit by taking away what works properly eg fresh good food distribution. I had skills and motivation , but the "economy" ( read Establishment) just wanted its cronies and gimps. So McGarbage giving out "diplomas" is just taking the piss - cheap deskilling of labour and contempt for individual talents and needs. Its a gimmick by a fading vaguely left of centre politican to appear "pro globalisation" and big ( crap) business
once you get your "degree" you can go somewhere else. i consider it using a system that otherwise failed you miserably. until the various needs of the children in the education and job system are properly addressed you will continue to see private organizations like this offering up something that hasn't been duly provided by the government. yeah, mega corps like mcdonalds SHOULDN'T have this much power, but they do. it's a very practical idea.
Oh completely, and obviously if you cant get enough money to feed hungry children or whatever any other way, or the dole doesnt give enough, then working at mcdonalds is completelty understandable. My only point was i dont feel its morally superior to work at Mcdonalds than to say, take money from your mum or from the dole
I DO. i really do. it was how i was raised. if you're physically capable of working, go to work. make your own way. suck up the pride and go to it.
though i'm proud to say i was able to make a great deal of money cleaning houses and home care for some elderly neighbors and such. odd jobs, at the right price, can buy your college texts for you. but you never have a free moment.
McDonalds have been knocked by the Health brigade. They are a good employer as I have worked for them in the past. I think that now McDonalds are looking at promoting healthy foods. Now you can order a salad and an orange juice. So they are taking on board all of this. Infact I reccomend many who simply want an intermediate job, should try them and get as far as assistant manager or floor manager then spring board off into a better company. There was a time when you used to be able to order supersize meals. It was just the drink and fries that were large. But now, salt is evil and supersize is too influencing for kids. If you go to the Central store in Marble Arch, there is a recruitment office which is open most days of the week Apply within. Despite what many people say, Mcdonalds is a good place to start.
J0hn, you should watch Morgan Spurlock's Supersize Me. Those 'healthy' salads tend to have just as much sugar in them as other options. And if the OJ is from concentrate it probably does as well. But well that is all considerably off topic.
This film was misleading because some guy decided to eat nothing but McDonalds. As everyone should know, in moderation, it is okey. But excessiveness is a major health risk. Most people don't eat nothing but McDonalds. Most go once or twice a week, but other's perhaps like me, once a month. With regard the salads, there is a choice of dressing. You could have the sugary dressing sprayed over, or simply have the lower calorie version. Once again, all this madness about how McDonalds is an evil place, is yet another example of Health and Safety going one step too far. I personally don't wish to live in a freakishly fit nation, where everyone resembles a stick insect and where kids are anarexic because people like Jamie Oliver, goes round to schools scaring kids, saying their smarties are going to kill them if they continue eating. I mean come on. I don't support a Size zero society. McDonalds are a good company to work for. Mc A levels are just apart of the package if you wish to become a manager or assistan manager or supervisor. McDonalds have strived to make sure they do the right thing. Alot of the meat they get does come from good farmers, who tend to their livestock with good grains and grass to chew on. Once again, I would say McDonalds was a good place to start for intermediacy.
i really didn't consider that movie to be at all fair. honestly, WHO eats that much mcdonalds? no one.
I agree. personally I don't know anybody. It seems that the guy who did this movie, went out of his way to make McDonalds look like a restaurant of death.
