Yeah, well theres not very much of it at all once you sustain a fusion reaction... the only problem is you make a little junk getting the reaction to start... but its not like it can't be disposed of... its not really that much more of a biohazard then a dirty diaper.
misunderstanding or mis representation with the way we are serverd up science these days.. i am completly thick, but even i see this .
there are a lot better alternatives to the power crisis than nuclear power to handle the peak oil crisis... we already have hybrid cars... we could use solar power, wind, or lots of other stuff... i dont really believe in nuclear power at all... the chance for a huge tragedy is just... not worth it.
Yeah, and current waste is really not all that dangerous, at least not much more so than polltuion that comes from traditional plants.....
Wind or solar power ar just not at all efficient, and they just don't have the necessary scalability to sustain our usage of power.
This is the main problem holding it back, people are scared of it. There is really no reason at all for people to be so scared of it as they seem to be.
we could totally fund enough solar, wind and blah i forget the nam of a dam that gives power.. to run our power... we just dont have enough windmills and such right now... but they could be made.. No reason to be scared? Have you forgotten the past? maybe we should take this time to remember the Chernobyl disaster... and lets not forget that the "Chernobyl Zone" will not be safe to live in for THOUSANDS of years... it could even be considered a religious grounds for the societies of Tomorrow when the knowledge of the incident is lost in the past... yet on the earth there still remains one area that is not safe to live on. http://www.mindfully.org/Nucs/Chernobyl-Death-Zone.htm
Should possibilities for the future be dismissed because of accidents from the past? And building enough windmills and such to even fuel our current energy consumption is just not feasible, not to mention our use of energy is increasing, ever faster... In a few years the worlds energy consumption is expected to triple.
we are doing fine right now with minimal amounts of nuclear energy... instead of building more nuclear power plants we should be researching new more cheap, efficient, and most importantly SAFE ways of harvesting energy. We shouldnt let our mistakes of the past be the nightmares of the future... and we should acknowledge that we still do not have enough technology to ensure that a nuclear power plant will be safe... .
Think about ti thougyh, the last U.S. nuclear plant was built in '77, surely technology has come quite a way in nearly 30 years? Anyway, read the article, it explains a lot...
Chernobyl was a mistake the commi's made, very largely because it was underfunded, and little attention paid where it should have been. More importantly, it used a different kind of nuclear energy then we're talking about.
ok..i don't know if this has been adressed or not...but if the US was to switch to nuclear, and i guesss it would be benifitial too [cause i mean lets not only think of ourselves], but why would the US get to have nuclear power but Iran not? Thats one of the reasons why all those tiny countries want nukes, the US has em, why not them?
Because they are in general unstable. And like I mentioned, a byproduct of the process of recycling nuclear materials is weapons grade materials. Don't want just anyone to have that now do you?
because americans think of those people as less capable of being responsible with them... even though there country is the only one to have used them before... twice. but that of course is complete bullshit. The only way I would agree with nuclear power, is if the people who lived near it voted for it on a referendum... i been to white plains new york and there is a huge movement to get rid of their nuclear power plant that the people live by... no one wants it there.. when 9-11 happened the government scared the people to shit about the possibilities of a terrorist attack against a power plant in the united states...
Um, because the second Iran got one, it would probably cause a nuculear war in the middle east... the ayatollah might die pretty soon, and then Iran could be thrown into a civil war, where the nukes would be sold to the highest bidder, who would then use it as soon as possible... No offense, but thats kinda a dumb thought... why not just sell nukes on ebay?
Mui, you think because we've used nukes in the past that gives everyone a right to have nukes? Thats fucked up logic...
If people would just put as much time, energy and money on developing and improving these renewable energy resources (like solar, wind and water power) as they do on destroying the earth and killing each other... then maybe they would find the solution.
Really though, those renewable sources just aren't feasible for the amount of power we need. Not to mention some, such as water, cause significant changes in the enviroment...
