Were they able to pay you less than minimum wage because you were under a certain age?

In '69, the minimum wage was $1.60, which, in today's dollars would be $11.92. The current minimum wage is $7.25, which comes to 62% of what it was back in '69. Biden $15 an hour proposal is substantially more, but considering how seldom it gets raised, with inflation, within a few years it will be no doubt be commensurate, so it's not unreasonable, unless of course you're a small business owner currently paying minimum wage and it's going to be more than doubled, so it will cost more than twice as much to pay your employees. Of course, salaries are deductible from your business taxes, so there's that. Time will tell what effect it has.

The idea capitalism rules the economy is a joke in bad taste. The banks and Wall Street rule the economy and, almost anywhere you go in the world, the closer you get to actually handling the money itself, the more money you make. Woman's high heals get taller as well. Minimum wage was created, because they'd be starving to death on TV in front of the white house if it weren't for food stamps and soup kitchens. The Pentagon wanted them at least healthy enough to use for cannon fodder.

Yes, legal work age was 16. I was 15 and a half. Close enough, but the company wanted to save that 80 cents a day.
    Technically, I was hired illegally.

Lincoln said that if he didn't free the slaves, nobody would do it for another century and, by some accounts, slavery was not abolished in the US until the 1950s. Today, many are working sometimes for food stamps and far less than minimum wage. These are often people who work three jobs if they can just to make ends meet, and in the 1990s Chicago became famous for the large number of children walking to school through the snow barefoot. Someone donated a warehouse full of sneakers to them, while the number of homeless is only going down because Covid is killing them faster.

Why don't you and your Fascistani brothers ever show proof ... as in each time you blame Antifa? Didn't you notice that guy who fired an assault rifle at the police station in Minnesota was a member of Boogaloo? Didn't you notice all the Boogaloo planted bombs to blame on Antifa? Didn't you notice Trump himself trying to blame the January 6th riot and attack on our seat of government on Antifa? Can you provide evidence of Antifa's existence?

That's real smart, huh? Tell them you'll pay them less money so they'll work harder, huh?

You can take Gomer out of the trailer park but you can't take the trailer park out of Gomer.

Why wouldn't we, since we "have to have it", tie it to CPI or some similar indicator of the cost of living?

There's a semi-organized way of handling SS CLA - that's not randomly voted on.

If the elites want to use it to entice votes, then tying it to a formula would disrupt their scheme.

Note that salaries are not deductable from business taxes. They are a business expense, which when all are subtracted from receipts results in profit, which in turn is what's taxed.

What you just said is not true. All salaries are deductible (correct spelling) as a business expense on schedule C and come right off the top. Maybe while we are on this you could explain how Trump avoided taxes for 18 years?

Of course not. Instead, you're with those who burn business, cars, destroy police stations, defecate and leave needles on the street... All to better lives.

It's not surprising that you'd hallucinate something completely different, and then attack your own hallucination.
And on top of that, consider it a problem-solving approach.

"Not true" then you proceed to paint the same picture, but with less precise words.

I really wish you guys would continue this discussion of minimum wage and taxes in a separate thread. I realize Margie has been quiet this past week so there's nothing new to report on her, but give her time, she'll be back in the news soon with more outrageous behavior.

Here in Washington State we are on track by law to reach the 15 minimum wage in a few years and we currently are at the top in comparison to other states. Guess what?.....none of the horror stories have come true. Young people still have jobs; employment has not disappeared. The minimum wage used to be tied to the CPI but RR “aka mother Theresa” didn’t like that. Of course.

Its the banks. At any given time the banks invest in different locations, right now, Seattle. They are building up the local real estate, and raised the minimum wage simply to attract more skilled labor to the state for building all the skyscrapers. The minute the money stops flowing into Seattle, the party's over. At any given time, maybe half a dozen places in the US are actually raking in more money than they take from the fed, but the only thing congress decides anymore is how to grease their asses for the banks.

When the oil business picked up six or seven years ago in North Dakota, the McDonalds there started paying $18 per hour. All the locals went to work in the oil patch. It was a common thing in Nebraska and Colorado too. Unfortunately, the oil companies and land owners just end up capping the wells and lay off all the oil field workers. Then McDonalds lays off the big earners. It happens because of capitalism's law of supply and demand. There is a flat bed trucking outfit out of Dickinson North Dakota that specializes in oil field service. They do well for a while then park the trucks when the big oil dudes want the work to stop.
