We really had something going for us back in the day. Where can you go but down once you've reached the very top (Woodstock)?
just a place to get together and live overthere would be great. kinda bomhemian shit you know, just like the early hippy movement. i know there are rainbow gatherings out there and i think they are great but a big place were all people who want to love and be free is okay. i don't know right it's positive to stay in the sixties with your head if you want to give something positive to the world of today. i am a big fan of the sixties but i also think it is better to keep it seperated from the part of me that wants to give a positive change to the world. i think the best way to make this world a better place is to find a new way to do it.
Lol...I'm new to this site so this is a new thread for me. I did notice you were talking about how you are let down by our society by not having a woodstock..and I would agree everyone to day is a conformist facist...look around you highschool, ever see a peace pin anywhere other than your own? (ifyou have one). Everyone is ready to march to war with the machine. Lol I will voulenteer my guitar services or bass services to your new band . Lets get the woodstock revolution underway, a bloodless revolution that is. Peace, Al
Right on, man..that's right up my band's alley..peace, love, music and revolution are 4 words that sound so sweet in this man's ear..I'm all for it. Give me a shout if you want to talk about how we can get this thing started, man!
Just keep in mind, the original Woodstock was nearly 40 years ago, so we need to re-introduce concepts behind it to the new generation. With the types of people you encounter on this forum, and all the people in the world who thirst for social change, you should have no problem gaining allies. The world today needs another Wodstock, and it needs what the new hippie movement has to offer. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope your Woodstock revolution is a big success.
WoodstockChild: I agree with you 100% that MUSIC makes the world go around. I am also a songwriter, recently out of high school. And I also want to change the world for the better, where people live together in peace and understanding. I have been writing songs for about a year now. The first songs I wrote were love songs, and I'm sure you understand the joy of creating something so beautiful as a love song. I still write them, but I have also begun to write more political songs. They are songs that plead for peace, but they also plead for a NEW WAY, one that is different from the ways of the hippie, the establishment, or any other pattern of thought or feeling. I write songs that say the hippies were and are just as wrong as the establishment, because both sides exclude one another. While the hippies promote their own way, the establishment promotes theirs. Where can both sides meet to find peace? My songs also ask the question: how can both sides truely love one another, when both sides are so busy putting the other side down? I do not know if you'd understand the way I see the world, but I think it must be very different than the way you see it. People would say I stand against everything the Woodstock festival stood for. That is not entirely true. I yearn for understanding between human beings, I want peace, but I dont want drugs, I dont want orgies, I dont want disrespect towards old values, ect, ect. I am not saying you believe in those things, but dont you see, the whole hippie movement has long become intertwined with them! What can we do to break out of it? But I also do not want war, injustice, prejudice, suffering, blind following of a leader/system, or superficiality. (I'm sure you'd agree with me that our modern culture needs a band that gives a new sort of joy to people, that makes them see again that music CAN change the world!) All I'm trying to say, WoodstockChild, is that I want to join you in bringing peace to this world. But I see the hippies and Woodstock, and I do not see ME. It's is just not in my nature, as is the same for so many other people who are just as beautiful as you! So what can we do about it? THAT is the question that weighs heavy on my songs. I hope both of us, together with all people, will someday find a bright and shining answer, in a better future.
yes man! that is a very good idea I suppport you too. You don't need drugs for a psychedelic revolution; all you need is creativity.
I realize this comment was not addressed to me, but I'm going to respond anyway. The thing about the hippie movement was, and still is, that it's not about wrapping yourself around someone else's ideology or ways of thinking, but is about discovering your own inner-self, and living as an individual, according to your own lifestyle. If you can do that, then your question will answer itself.
That's very true, it is all about discovering your own inner-self. But the problem remains that human beings still tend to put down others who do not share similar beliefs that come from within. By beliefs, I mean politics or lifestyle ect., not evil/negative beliefs or anything like that. So while it's true that every person should find and accept themselves as individuals, I think the only way ALL of humanity will find peace is when we find out how to live together in a manner that will please everyone, yet offend no one's values. Or to put it another way, how can two halves become one without one side claiming victory over the other?
I think that old style liberalism has gone out the window this year - the point being that there is a new style of liberalism emerging - the type that says we need a far right wing government and they will be voted in! All the wests governments have paved the way for this to happen - you will not be able to appeal to the middleground liberalist values soon - world events are taking a serious turn. Any revolutionary would have to remember that you cant make an omlette without breaking a few eggs
You're right. The problems you described are a very unfortunate aspect of our society today. I wish I had a good, solid answer for these problems, but the fact is I don't. Realistically I don't think anybody does, at least not right now. Perhaps with time, as society continues to develop, these things will become less of an issue than what they are now. But I can offer this, and I offer it simply as a personal opinion - If people can discover their own individuality, in effect, learn to live with themselves, then by extension of that they can learn to live with each other. I hope time will prove this statement to be correct.
yea what the fuck is up with the conformist people these days. all they care about is looking pretty when they are just being stupid spoiled whores. everyone needs to ease up and stop being so paranoid and some real good music could do that, possible yours will my friend. there are things like woodstock still going on, just a ton smaller, im going to one later this month. its called comfest/ community festival, its all about brotherly love, peace, and drugs.
@woodstockchild Bra, you have some of the best lyrics i've seen in a while, especially the John Bonam remberance song. I support you 100%!!!!
