I was exchanging ... Indulgences and met people within a few months of joining this site. Maybe it was just specific subforums that are currently dormant were more accepting.
I think forums, in general, are a dying thing. They are low tech, and slow paced. There are also so many alternatives now--social media has given us innumerable options for virtual communication.
It's kind of surprising to me really, I see forums as having their niche. Surely they don't have the same speed in terms of person to person communication but I can't really go on Instagram or Facebook and listen to music people are posting and stuff like I can on here. Also the opportunities for more introspect topics and posts seem much easier in this format than what social media provides.
Maybe most people don't want to discuss interesting topics. Maybe they just like reminding people they exist. Hf hasn't been really great for topics that interest me in a while. The philosophy board used to be really active. Nobody goes there anymore.
But then again we have many working people here that are online at work all day, happily posting, watching videos, shopping. I saw a lot of that when I worked in a big office for a awhile with 1800 employees all glued to their monitors, looking busy. But the stats were awful. Nobody got anything done, and meetings were a circus of discussions over who posted what where when and why. I walked away from that state of non-production. 'Twas pointless to waste my efforts on that crowd HipForums IS great! And it's alive. More than I can say for other sites...like this.
I like forums for actually being able to follow a thread and have a conversation over time. I have facebook, insta, twitter', etc but i find those move to fast at times. I agree forums seem to be declining but i do appreciate them for they are
Hip Forums is one of the best things ! its opposite to everything fake cool and trendy (being serious here ) You know what you get its a no shit no poser Forum , we might not all be the same think the same but we would be the worlds best piss up !
When I first appeared on HF people seemed to think that I was a nutty professor. Today they know that I am a nutty professor. HF is much the same as everyday life among the regulars.
Last year Jane had a temp working for her and during her lunch-break she logged onto her facebook account to see what was going on. Within seconds, everyone's computers turned off and security came rushing into the office. The moment that she had logged on, the alarms went off in the IT department and they shut parts of the UK governments servers down.
Thank you. If we met in everyday life, you would recognize me straight away. Well.... Assuming that the 40 year old avatar picture that Jane posted for a joke did not confuse you too much.
Just think. Jane took that picture 14 years before you were born. She bought me the shorts for a rock climbing weekend when it was pouring with rain the whole time. LOL
