I dont think so. I feel sorry for the youngsters of today when I hear the rubbish thats being churned out. and as for "old man" I admit Ive lived a lot of years to get to where I am today and Its been hard work some of the time but for the best part. fun. I would not change a thing. as the saying goes "youth Is wasted on the young"

I guess it's just a natural part of getting old, but when I go to iTunes Music Store and see the new releases, I've never heard of 80% and the others I've heard and don't like.

i just gotta say man, musical taste is very personal, and you'll never reach a conclusion... because one is not wrong if one prefers todays music over 70s music, its just a matter of taste

Oh you wanna jump on too?...funky, your taste is all in your mouth... I seem to remember you were the one that said all songs in Em were basically conceived as a result of laziness... ignorant generalizations like that reveal your depth ya know? I let you off easy on that one...now you wanna try again?

I simply took a poke at psychedelicpiper dude because he took one at me, then tried to get all sanctimonious with the "60's/ 70's guy" malarky... sheesh

I'm actually 18. I hate most of today's crap. I'm just saying if you dig a bit deep, you can find artists creating new sounds and making new music that's every bit as good as what came before.

I'm really picky when it comes to music, considering how much trash is out there these days, but I've been able to find good new stuff out of what some friends were really digging. And then build from there.

Never planning to grow up. haha :D

Rank your top 5 artists please Zombie, and a few of your favourite songs. Just out of curiosity because IDM is only a miniscule part of what we listen to, well at least what I listen to anyway.

Well, It might surprise you to hear when I was your age
there was very little on the radio that I really liked much...

Now when I was 12 or 13, I remember FM radio had just come on the air...one station would play entire album sides of Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Jeff beck, stuff that is now considered classics.

However, I don't hold that era or those artists as the pinnacle of rock music, and neither do I use it as a yard-stick by which to measure the quality of other music.

There may be good stuff currently being produced, in fact I know there is...
but digging through the mountains of garbage to find it is a real fucking chore these days, that's for sure.

    No matter really.
listening and following the score of say for instance, Igor Stravinskys "Rite of Spring" or Zappas "Sinister Footwear" keeps me busy enough with 'new sounds'.
I just wish someone had turned me on to this shit before I got sucked into Rock music.

check this out. It's a good intro to modern music. I hope some of you will go have a listen to the clips.

    Aphex Twin Alias........

    ha

Not my favourite though but you're trying to say that your opinion of a sound is better than ours, all i'm saying is i can appreciate more genres so i get more fun out of music because i can enjoy more music than you can :) pretty silly really.

@zombiewolf Despite my pickiness about music, I feel like I dig a wide variety. Rock, jazz, classical, folk, experimental, electronic, reggae, etc. I'm VERY passionate about music.

I'm still guilty of not being familiar with the music of many amazing artists, like Stravinsky, although I've certainly heard of him. There's still a lot of music I have yet to explore. I'm digging the clips, though.

Just because I avidly enjoy rock and electronic music, and I want play guitar in a band, doesn't mean I don't enjoy all types of different music. I truly believe in music as a form of artistic expression.

In fact, bringing Aphex Twin back into the equation, he's very influenced by musicians like Stockhausen and John Cage. He and Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead actually did a collaboration with Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki.

So, it just goes to show, you really can't make a judgment. People have all types of different experiences and are influenced by different things.

Sorry, I don't have a top 5 artist or favorite songs list, everyday's different ya know? besides
The kinds of music I listen to don't have any bearing on my self-importance, so I'm never offended if someone else doesn't like it.

Hey guys, people are allowed to choose there own music preferences and make there own decisions. But my thoughts on music nowadays is generally quite awful it has no meaning its just a bunch of *wubwubwub* then something that might sound like a vacuum cleaner on ecstasy. Music has lost its spark its time to bring back psychedelia and the jam bands! :D

If you check my earlier posts, Animal Collective's "Merriweather Post Pavilion" is a huge step in the right direction. Very densely and distinctly psychedelic.

I think even Radiohead's "The King of Limbs" is pretty trippy. Very layered and awesome to listen to high.

Music like this has definitely given me a lot of hope for the future. And I want to start a psychedelic band myself.
