I've known lots of first-time moms who were told the same thing by baby's pediatrician, and every single time it was a milk protein allergy, from COW milk mom was drinking. An elimination diet is all that is needed in such cases, but you gotta remember that it can take up to two months for all traces of dairy to leave the body even if there are immediate noticeable results, and there is hidden dairy in lots of "dairy-free" food items. http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/t041800.asp
Right. And an other thing about eliminating dairy from your own diet, you don't have to "substitute" anything for it. Adult humans do not need milk of any kind, in fact for most, milk is not even tolerated by the body. There is no need, if you don't like soy, to use it. Eat fruits and vegetables, protein source, fluid (preferably water, lots of it, with occasional juice) and good, whole grains. I took dairy out of my diet almost 17 years ago. In those days, there was no edible soy milks, soy cheeses ect. I just ate good food, and didn/t worry about it. I occasionally take a Calcium supplement, a Calcium Citrate. But, for the most part, I don't even take that. Your body will learn in a few weeks to extract calcium in huge amounts from other foods as soon as you remove the offending dairy from your diet. People who don't eat dairy actually absorbe MORE calcium from foods than those who eat dairy. Milk from a cow or a goat has so much phosphorus in it, that you absorbe virtually NO usable calcium, the phosphorus binds with it, and it is carried out of your body. Osteoporosis ONLY occurs in societies who consume dairy, people who don't consume dairy don't get osteoporsis. It is CAUSED by dairy, while the Dairy Industry makes people think their horrid fluid is a CURE. I thought I broke my wrist a few years ago, they had to do wrist x rays. The doctor said it was not broken, and he said I had the bones "of a 17 year old athlete." I told him I did not consume dairy, and he admitted that probably had something to do with it. My mother has osteroporosis, all her sisters do, most of my cousins do, we are white, petite, and small. Perfect breeding ground for Osteoporosis. I don't even excesize all that much, I just did a lot of weight bearing excersize (carrying babies, toddlers and preschool kids, most of the time) and stayed away from the White Stuff. (Oh, and the doctor who did my x ray follow up was amazed, not only that I didn't eat dairy, (he wasn't as educated in this as the ER doctor, evidently) but that I was nursing a toddler, and had over 10 years of nursing already under my belt. Yet, I had very strong bones. He was under the impression that my bones would "look like Swiss Cheese." I told him, no, I don't eat Swiss Cheese, and breastfeeding does NOT cause bone problems. I then sent him some articles on breastfeeding and bone density, so he would be as informed as the ER doctor had been.
i have some very very good news...... i just got off the phone with mellissa and she had called a lactation consultant and went to see them and they had suggested that andre (her son) may be allergic to something she is eating they did some testing and found out he was allergic to dairy so they refferred her to an accupuncturist who specialized in allergies. well long story short they accupuncturist used this technique that got rid of the alergy and she went back to nursing him and he has been fine ever since. i am so ecstatic.
