OR, force them to participate... I'm not sure if this was already mentioned in this thread, but I could give a fuck about Santa as early as 5 years-old. In fact, I clearly remember never believing in Santa in spite of being lied to by family members. I remember speculating at 4 (which is as early as my memory goes) about whom from among my uncles or aunts was going to dress up like Santa that year. I think I've read two posts making the argument that lying about Santa is somehow charitable to children, but I'm sure in many cases that's an underestimation of children's intelligence and capacity for independent thinking. In short, Santa and Christmas can also be an imposition on mature children by childish adults , rather than a charitable act from mature adults who kindly take into consideration the childish needs of children. Edit: Granted, I still liked the toy gun one of the stupid adults gave me for free, but smart children like New Year's.
lol! Three needy crybabies. One of them fat and ridiculously dressed. Edit: I'll go with the little ones any day. At least I can fit them in a dumpster...
Cringe, Grinches! Nine-year-old girl has been raising money to buy gifts for hospitalized children for the last four years. This year she raised $15K. http://www.wsoctv.com/holidays/26196565/detail.html :xmastree: Bam!
And you think its a good thing that kids grow up thinking they should care about people more at christmas time? Wouldn't it be better to have them grow up thinking that there doesn't need to be a special time of year to do good? But hey... that's just me...
I haven't looked at her website, but I'm pretty sure she didn't raise 15K in one day. I think she is probably caring about those kids all the time. Christmas is about giving for us brainwashed Santa types. I'm going to be late for work, so I'll talk at you later.
Kinda looks like she's been raising money all year every year for 3 years for the kids who are too sick to go home for Christmas. God forbid someone care about those poor kids who have to watch their friends who aren't as sick go home for a short break while they're still stuck tied up to IVs and whatnot. I guess we'd all better just hide under a rock, because it's December, and apparently if you show compassion in December, you're just doing it because it's Christmas time.
So you are saying that the article about the kid raising money for christmas gifts isnt about christmas? Go figure...
Blimey, are we getting a bit too politically correct here for a 'hip' board or what? Loving the drama and the bull shit though!
hahaha. i mean, he's assuming raising kids to believe in santa for a couple years and enjoying christmas precludes raising kids to be generous and kind the rest of the time. it's funny.
Actually, I am speaking to the fact that throughout this thread and the others such as it, people keep talking about the 'fact' that christmas is a magical time of year, the time to be kind and love each other... If christmas is a special time of year because of those things, then those things can't happen at other times of the year... To put that another way... if those things happened year round, christmas would not be special for it... it would be just another day...
Yes,it would be funny if he was someone with a sense of proportion about ANYTHING he posts. He needs to be right every time he posts and it shows in a very high percentage of them. He resorts to calling people names or deriding their character when disagreed with. I've been around people like Tom (for about 2 minutes)--they'd argue with a stump. He doesn't only not care about my opinion,he seemingly doesn't care about anyone's. I don't put him on ignore because it's fascinating to observe his type. So basically, keep it up Tom and have a merry fuckin' 2011. My 2 cents right there.
