lucid dreaming always catches me by surprise... unless I'm doing a daydream when I'm on the edge of sleep Don't think that's lucid but it's an idea.
i see lucid dream as any dream you can control as opposed to dreams where you just float around and wierd things happen i often realise im dreaming, then forget. or something. usually ill realise then the laws of physics stop working i can then control myself in the dream but i cant control the other people or the environment. i get them prety much whenever ive gone to bed wihtout smoking weed, caus i smoke every night if i can. but its exam period now. last night for example, i remember the ending fairly clear. we were on a train and we stop and im turned around looking at something. i turn around and i see my mates running throuhg a field down to the side of the station. in reality, there is this field and fence but its on the other side of the line we were on and a few hundred metres back. so i jumped outof teh train but it took off so i was holding onto the train as it pulled me along. luckily a station was close. when teh train stopped however, instead of hitting teh side of teh train, it flung me horizontally (not parabolically) forward. i hit the wall and woke up i barely ever get nightmares. when i do, i forget them. i only really remember wierd or fun dreams. sometimes teh fun ones obviosuly have their action packed moments. well they always do. like id calss that dream as a fun one. there was lots of shit about picking up weed and going to a party and selling the wede but ripping this guy off then running to the train and then meeting up with these two dudes who were stoned and i wanted to go with them. then we exited the subway and eventually got to the buit i mentioned higher up. they were holding like school photos or something too. we sat on the floor in the train. yay for lucid dreams! sometiems i just have fun or action in a dream and think its real and wake up and it all makes sense and ill be like 'awesome' but i dunno if you gusy class that as lucid caus i didnt know it was a dream, even thought i thought it was a fucked up magical world where wierd things happened. it all just seemed... normal.
I have them every once in a while, but they sure are an experiance. I feel so refreshed the day after
I have a friend that cannot NOT lucid dream....he can't help it...and he doesn't like it....why does it only happen to people that don't want it...lol
that's awesome! i wish i lucid dreamt all the time. Usually when i'm in lucid dream, i talk to random people... for me, they either act normal, and then become possessed, or they have really deep philosophical things to say, or just really deep advice. i've asked people if i was dreaming before, that's weird. but hey, i have a question for all you people, anyone else have lucid dreams where they're attacked, or have lucid dreams where people become posessed, or any lucid dream that they didn't try to control? i think lucid dreaming can teach us alot, but not when we're trying to control it, then it just clouds it all
IMO the idea is to expieence whatever you can and go somewhere. I once knew I was dreaming and jumped out the window and imeadiately knew how to fly. then i went to visit a friend down south, who btw got me into it. I called him the next day and before I told him anything about my dream he said he saw me when I came to visit him last night. Man that freaked me out! But it's really cool when it happens.
crazy stuff here!! if you want to lucid dream then sleep natrually...notice that being awake or asleep..either one is real or not...theres no way we can tell. 'sleep' is just a deeper conciousness of our natrual state...our mind is still real when we sleep yes? it's just that it is in a deeper state of recognition..thats why dreams tell us things in symbols about our current issues. if you practice in the day time..watching your thoughts...you'll relaise just how often things arise like..i am human..my name is stan...gravity holds me down...these are all thoughts in our mind all the time..we jsut dont listen to them. if you spend a day notcing every thought you have you'll relaise just how much crap is in there..just how many..you can't, you should...this is the ruless. type things.. in dreams the rules go...why? i think becuase we let go of mentla constrictions...like...i can't jump off that building i'll die not fly... [This is turning into the matrix!] lucid dreams are you..your mind still monitering your thoughts..even in sleep..and eventually with training..you'll see how your dremas are subtley PROJECTED by your own mind..creating your reality as it goes along..literally making it up as you go... it is possible to be awake..while you are asleep...or to have your mind turned on while you're alseep. some intersting facts....your brain makes up seventy percent of what it sees visually... it does this my experience of what it assumes things to be/look like..this is why we cant imagine a new colour...or new sensations are always alien. however the computer remebers every single thing its ever contacted and so....walking down the street...seventy percent of the things you 'see' are made up by your brain....scanning...saying..tree...green leaf...bark...birds... head fuck hey? thata alos why babies can't see very far..they have not yet expanded their field of vision enough to include things they have little experience of so far.... so even the things we 'see' are conditioned...on what we've seen before..and assume will be there.... if you notice your thoughts in a day..many will be 'gravity holds me down' in dreams...for some reason..that thoughts evaporates...and it no longer does hold us down...so which world is real..the one with gravity or the one without? how much of reality do we not see due to assumption? what does awake or asleep mean? i have been far more awake in some dreams..than some chemistry lectures... kung fu masters...the dalai lama see only dream possibilities..happening in their 'normal waking life' walls bleeding blood...supreme force of energy...mind over matter. what are we not seeing becuase of conditioning? just how much of our world is literally...brainwashed.......?
It's really rare you find yourself in a lucid dream without wanting it to happen, may seem like one, but its only a very mild version of an actual Lucid Dream, i mean i'm not saying it's impossible, nothing is impossible, but anyhow....People that can without using techniques make people who do use the techniques really jealous heh(like me). Well i actualy discovered about Lucid Dreaming while doing DXM last year, my friend was telling me about "these dreams, where you control them" and he wanted to try it on DXM, and we did. It didn't really work for me at first, i couldn't fall asleep.(I've redone it since without the DXM and with the tips on the site i mention below and it worked verry well(and continues to). But apparently it worked for him on the DXM. I looked it up later on, and found a website with a bunch of tips on how to Lucid Dream and what it's all about. It took a long time before i could really fully Lucid dream, it takes practice but it's really all worth it. It's like a high, it's awesome. I'm not encouraging the exesif use of cough supressants (DXM), and i don't really encourage abusing over the counter drugs, but it's a great way to begin Lucid Dreaming for certain people (not to do it every time, just to start). It might even be easier without, depends on the person i guess. Anyhow, here's the Lucid Dreams website, have fun! PeaceLove&Music, Angela~
I had a dream once where I was walking inbackwards facing my manager from work. I don't know if she could see me although I was right in front of her. I kept saying to myself "You're dreaming, so you should be able to change the color of her shirt." Her shirt was like a pretty sea green and I was telling myself I wanted to change the shirt to red. But the color never changed and then I woke up. Was this a lucid dream? Oh yeah, I'm going to purchase some melatonin today, I heard this induces lucidity. I'll let you know what happens.
all of my dreams are lucid. i didnt even know the term, but all of my deep dreams i have known i was dreaming but i kept "watching" myself. i cant explain it.
Um, I've been taking melatonin for insomnia for a couple years, and it doesn't make a difference as far as lucidity goes. I've never heard that before...
I can't believe no one has mentioned the movie "Waking Life". One of the better films out there, it deals almost exclussively with this issue, including that blurred line of what are dreams, reality, etc. etc. Goes all over the board with outstanding music, art, political theory, and more. As far as my lucid dreams go, I started realizing that I could lucidly dream after reading Castenada when I was 16. I have only done it a few times as usually, once I realize that I am dreaming, I become conscious, and almost as a result--I wake up. There have been a few, reoccuring dreams that I have where I know that I am dreaming. In one, I am able to jump down the highway with great leaps and bounds. In another version, I am able to breath underwater as a competetive swimmer. The two dreams often "wake" me in the dream because of their oddity. Usually I will go through a process to detirmine whether or not they are "real" or dreams. Sometimes, even though I am able to do amazing things, it feels soooo real that I think I have just discovered some amazing new law of physics, and that I am actually not dreaming afterall. Usually, however, I only notice that I am dreaming lucidly for a few moments before drifting back off into an uncontrolled dream. A quick question: why would you want to lucidly dream? I know that it is fun, and that you can do flashy things, but besides that, what benifit to you recieve? I would almost prefer to not. Your mind dreams for a reason, to process life events, situations, daily happenings, people, circumstances, etc. I would rather my mind construct the dream without interferance from the logical/judgemental mind.
yes, I have had this, and I actually learned a trick in psychology class to get you to wake up from a lucid dream if you're having a nightmare lucid dream... in your dream, try doing somersaults or cartwheels....it works!
yes,I had Lucid Dreams. Now I'll try have it many times and I'm doing all day Reality Test- just look at something and ask myself if I only dream. It's the best way to have lucid dreams.Castaneda's technic with hands is good too but maybe less probably I think. My next point after having often lucid dreams is OOBE -astral travels.I hope my practises will have good final.
You might be right Lemongait because I still have yet to become lucid taking this stuff. Although I did recall reading and experience on erowoid which talked about dream lucidity and melaton. I'd imagine it effects everyone differently though. I found this on Articleinsider.com. Maybe vividness is more what I meant. Melatonin users often report falling into deep sleeps, and many of them comment on the nature and power of their dreams. Surveys show that most melatonin users report increased dream activity, and 88 percent of them say they experience more vivid dreams after taking the supplement; pleasant dreams seem even more agreeable, and strange dreams become more surreal. In addition, people who take melatonin often say they remember more of their dreams. Well, I did get the melatonin as well as B-6. I took them both but I found the B-6 actually increased my energy. I took them both the first night and was still bright eyed and bushy tailed so I wound up having to take a otc sleeping pill. Nothing happened by way of dreams. The next night I took the melatonin alone which didn't make me lucid but my dream was a little more vivid and my recall was a little better. My recall has been terrible the last month or so for some reason. The next night I combined the melatonin with valerian root, this made the dreams a just a touch more vivid. But the brand of velarian is very cheap so I'll do an upgrade and see how that works. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!
You can naturally dream every night but lucid rarely, you should always take the opertunity to do something positive with that time. I mean there are all the vast cool things to do, things you could never do in real life and naturally dreaming isn't the same is it e.g pick a big feature film and step in. You can do lots of useful things in LD's as well, although your mucsles are paraylised the nerves still fire and your mucles twitch in response to your movements. This means you can build muscle memory, this is how people mainly learn to so complex actions, playing the guitar, a sport, a martial art etc. Its does leave you with some very odd sensations though, my body is absolutely convinced it can do a punch front somersault. Although a word of caution, your muscle memory might be there but your actual muscles might not be strong/fast enough to carry out what your brain thinks it can acheive... I have the bruises to prove this point. - Yes Waking Life is a cool movie
I have been wondering about that too. I always thought dreams to be important for the subconcious to work through stuff we haven't processed yet. I also think that letting go of the ego is very important and that we are living in the mind too much already. Why do you want to be in control all the time? Recently I heared about a woman who practised lucid dreaming to get rid of nightmares. She created a lover for herself to protect her and after some time she got kind of addicted to the dreams and couldn't think of anything else than the guy from her dreams and was neglecting her wake time relationships. One night she lost control over the dream and the guy told her she should stop abusing him and disappeared. She tried to make him come back the next night, but instead she started to get nightmares again. Somehow it looks to me that she was avoiding what she had to deal with and using the lucid dream as kind of an escape and to stay in control instead of letting go. Some people say that what is the most achievable is to have no dreams at all. Not to not remember them, but to actually not dream.
