Not quite clear. Does the stigma then transfer to the new owners of the jewllery or other unethical goods ?

His problem is that he takes everything everyone says way too seriously from up there on his high horse. And he has time to trawl through quite a big thread quoting all the way and tut tutting over it, turning fleeting opinions and loose social analysis into fodder for his own style of pointless argument. Oh, and he misses points.

And he seems to be asking for my address so he can bring pain to me? Is that a threat?

I don't know, I think he has those preconceived ideas in his little mind. What he needs is a good riot.

this is it in a nut shell. those people worth rebelling against - they are virtually non existent in terms of a mass population

it's the same for the working class

they are fed and watered - people are undermining britain and forgetting there are worse places to be in grand scheme of things.

What is the rioting even about? I read in a paper here that it all started after some cops abused a 29 year-old black man. Is this true? Seems whatever started it, it's turned into nothing more than an excuse to break and burn things. As was the L.A. Riots of the early 90s.

Which is strange, because those who are so upset with the area in which they live seem too stupid to realise that they have the freedom to move somewhere more to their liking...

    That's because most see raging against the man as an act of burning and breaking things in society. A couple points if I may;

    - Stores, malls, banks, resturants, etc. are there for everyone's use. Just because someone isn't happy with our consumerist society, that does not give them to right to destroy things put in place for everyone's use.

    - If you really don't like modern society, be a man (or woman), work hard, save your money, then buy some land, away from others, you can live on it and decide how things are going to be there.

    - Most who revolt against society choose to do so by breaking and burning things. Instead, to be more productive, why not choose a more intelligent, respectable route like community involvement, or dare I say, politics. Making a difference that way would make a much more lasting impression than burning down a Starbucks that'll be rebuilt in 6-8 weeks.

The saying, "Don't shit in your own backyard," comes to mind.

You're exactly right. And these people aren't discontent with society anyway. They're just looking for an excuse to steal and hurt people. They're destroying their own neighborhoods and their own future.

When Vancouver lost to Boston in last years Stanley Cup Final, the fans went out and broke and burned things. Many were identified through cellphone images and security cameras and they were eventually charged.

Given the technology of today, and especially the fact that London is covered with CCTV, I'd say there's a good chance at least some of those doing the rioting will be charged.

Do you really care what their real motive is? The Iranian government said the same thing when their citizens protested during the elections.

Regardless of what their motive is, there's no excuse for it. And you can't compare Iran with Britain. If anything, these British kids that have done this crap have had too cushy of a life-somebody needs to kick them in the ass and make them understand that they have to be responsible for their own actions (I know that idea isn't very popular in Europe today-but it damn sure should be)

Was listening to NPR this morning.

Cameron was blathering about people wanting rights but not responsibility (sort of true... but who pushed them that far?) and about how there need to be TOUGHER laws to make people "think before" doing things (that's always worked great, over the course of human government and laws, hasn't it?) and how the police need greater powers to brutally apprehend people wearing face masks.

I was forcefully reminded of V for vendetta.

Too cushy? Perhaps we should all sleep on beds of nails to make it not-so-cushy. This type of resentment from the older generation is always intriguing to me: - "I worked 20 years for what's mine and I'll be damned if some young whippersnapper doesn't have to do the same"

Our ankles and rankles'll never get better by rioting. ; D
Imagine if everyone the least bit dissatisfied with their lot decided to lump it so as to up and party? : D

Decriminalize "drugs", back a basic social security, and keep the music coming. ( Too soon?! LOL) Capitalists are nothing but stinking commies. : D

Who knows, if we become intelligent enough to look down on all our angry reasoning, all our misconceived "righteous indignation", if we take the time required to make eachother feel good, to give all laughter its due... maybe we'll make time to put world famine behind us as well. : )

As it is, the world may not be able to see its way out of its so-called 'financial' concerns, but that's only because it's trying to put a loan on the future!

There's still cause to be Jolly! --Dying isn't altogether funny. Is that good enough?!

So, every sorry little poo out there in the world who wants some free shit, go get it!
Chock your cel for messed culls innit.
