they are extremely heavy especially after I wash. The only breakage I've had yet is on the ones in the back I use to tie up my hair into a pony tail. Out of all the things I've done to my locks, that proved to be the most damaging. Now I just use a hair tie

 

hmm I've gone the other way. I always used to use hair bands to tie my dreads up. They always just got stretched to hell and were no use after a very short time which I got annoyed with, also it never kept them together for very long, the bunch kept falling apart. These days I just use my dreads. Lets see what happens. BTW, I don't know about anyone else, but I never thought you weren't a guy.

I haven't the slightest idea, I've never counted. You can't tell from the picture but they are really varied in diameter. Some are less than a centimeter others are 3/4 inch.
