You may be sorry you asked... I need one of these with a diesel engine (for conversion to waste vegetable oil): I never thought I live to actually ASK for a minivan... Anyhoos, they are really hard to find in the US. They're everywhere in Australia, but don't meet DOT regs. I would be forever indebted to anyone who could even find one for me to buy...
Building the compression ring (I used scrap plywood and scrap pine and Gorilla glue for strength but it was overkill): Finished Ring:
Finished frame (16x9; for scale, the canoe is 18' and the green stepladder to the right is 6'): With door opening (Pressure treated to be changed to handcarved hardwood): Our yurt in the Dalhraidia camp at Pennsic 34 (brown roof):
i live in a tipi most of the year, bought it from reese in colorado. As long as you stay on top of the smoke flaps if a really heavy rain comes, it's watertight, and the fire heats it up really nicely. At night, with the fire going inside, it glows a beautiful orange color and steppin' inside is like going back in time. I can't imagine livin' full time in a "regular" house now....
oh, and zoomie...your yurt is really awesome lookin'. where is that camp that the last picture was taken?
That would be the annual Pennsic War at Cooper's Lake in Pennsylvania. Here's another view of our camp from the gate:
