To prevent the corrosion in the first place, keep your battery terminals dusted with baking soda. You could also use felt to mimic those kits, that have rings that go around the bottoms of your posts to hold basic/dielectric goop. I use white lithium greese. Coat each post and terminal, and it prevents oxygen from coming into contact. No oxygen = no oxidation. The best part about using the greese is that after one application.....it pretty much stays till you wipe it off. Eh, I buy the nice ones now, but I used to use the cheap terminals. They don't hold up very well, so after a few times taking them off/on they lose their form and don't want to tighten up like they should. The screw doesn't really harm the battery, just puts some thread marks down the side of the post.
