There's other insects and snakes in the cities that I can't handle... They look like people too, so it gets hard to sort that shit out.

Take care man... Not sure who's better off, one that has a doctor to see but get's ripped off or one that can't get to see a doctor when needed... I donno.

Fixing my slate floor in the hall today. Most of the pieces were left here in a cabinet when I bought this house. The missing and or broken pieces are out of a box (2 boxes actually) of mixed size/color slate tiles I got at ReStore for $5 (for both boxes) The random cuts and colors are the same as what was original to the house. Some perfect replacements in there with plenty for another project or two. Anybody priced real slate tile recently? Shyt's not cheap...

Tile can be really expensive. When I worked in the flooring store, people would always come in and complain about the cost of the good slate and porcelain tile, but we really didn't mark it up very much. The labour cost is very expensive too, because the floor needs to be perfectly level if you don't want the tiles to crack.

Also with natural slate you can't rely on the bottom of the tile being flat either. Several of the loose ones that I just lifted were not properly mortared down to begin with. Lucky those hadn't broken long ago.

One thing I noted about these two boxes of used slate, they are about the same vintage, early 60's, and probably the same supplier as they are dead on match for color and variation. I could extend the slate about 4 feet into the bedroom if I wanted and nobody would know it wasn't original. I think I'll be using them elsewhere though.

You're lucky that the colour is so close. A lot of people also would get pissed when they decided to order the same tile a few years later, only to find out that it was a slightly different shade than they had purchased previously. The same thing would happen with hardwood. Everyone expects everything to be uniform and consistent, but you can't have that when you're dealing with natural products.

The same happens with carpet with dye-lots ..you are better off ordering extra when you do flooring....tile wood or carpet

Yup! Sometime you get lucky and the retailer or the manufacturer still has a roll-end of the same dyelot, but usually you end up having to put in something slightly different (or replace the whole thing). The only time that it doesn't really matter is for stairs, you can usually get away with that.

Yeah... those boxes were a real find.

I had to swap out a light greengray slate that was broken with a brickred because that's what fit... I don't have a tile saw. This had too many of the red in the same area... Box yielded a nice greengray to swap out for a red that has a great maroon streak. The floor is 4 color Light greengray, darker greengray, maroon and brickred in various sized pieces in random color/size pattern. Some with subtle highlights of each other's colors. Definitely and artisan floor...

Once the adhesive is dry it's going to need grout repair, a good scrub and sealing. Good as new while still obviously vintage.

Glad the tests came back fine, Ori... Stay cool man

popo says how do I know you drove here with a valid license ...I wanna see it

I say....then you are going to have to wait until I leave and pull me over

he stated hassling me again and I point blank said....i';d like to leave and if I cant then please cuff me and arrest me

I said it really loud so everyone heard me....then I walked into the office

get something to score the tile with, place tile on wooden blocks and tap with hammer. you win some you loss some. I found it to be the same ratio of tile loss with the cutter. i used a bolt cutter and grinding wheel on some pieces.

Slate is a little different because it has grain... I'll still need a saw when I get to the kitchen counters, though.

I don't know if I'll ever get done here either, but it needs to get to a certain level of repair...

This place is worth all the effort though... I don't wonder why. I wonder how.

Ive a nice large house. some areas of this house I dont even use, are better than the ones I do use. I need some heavy machinery to handle the wooded areas outside. new porch decks all around, some roofing still.. and the funny thing is not much that cost in material, and another funny thing. Ive friends and family that can do work like that. like house raising or you know how the amish get together and get it done. nope, everyone would rather me call out to a contractor-s .. than come over have a pig roast and kegs and get this knocked out over the weekend. such bullshit with people.
