But they eat more undesirable bugs... They are damn fast too.

Erin the crow hates them too. She hates spiders and snakes.... Oh and raccoon.

Everybody says that keeping spiders is good because they do kill other insects.
Yeah, so does a can of bug spray. =D and I don't have anything against bugs in the garden that don't come into my house. Moths on the other hand well I hate those things too and I've learned to suck them up with vacuum cleaner. =]

I don't think I could handle that. Spiders are the one thing that bothers me. Huge snakes and lizards no big deal but I am terrified of spiders. The Brown Recluse is common in Colorado and they do not make webs they just hide in dark places like blankets and shoes (hence the name). So I always check carefully.

Sometimes living so close to the forest isn't so cool when you're scared of spiders lol. We can get some pretty big ugly things in Germany close to wolf spiders. I'm not too scared of snakes or lizards either and I like ants cause they're kinda cute but I don't like spiders or moths.

I have learned some tricks to kill spiders at distances though. Fly squatter and my personal favourite is a toy handgun that shoots rubber darts, they tend to make a spider go splat =]

good chance there is a spider within 6ft of you, probably so small you never see them, but sometimes.. they collect dust and convert it to food. like your dead skin. yummy.. :)

I was so tired from work last night, I fell asleep within 1 hour of coming home (1:30am)...then I slept on and off most of today, mostly because I didn't want to go online and miss a call (that never came) and I didn't want to leave because I thought (quite mistakenly) someone might appear here to assess damage to the house and the fence.

So, here I am Wide Awake. gad :p

Since I thought we'd be getting a call or an appearance from the insurance people, I called the insurance people again today and she finally gave up the insurance adjustor's name and number like he was part of the NSA or something. I called him and left a message...still NOTHING.

    again, gad and dagnabbit! :cuss:

Tomorrow I'll go up the road early (off tomorrow also) since I actually do have stuff to do besides sit here waiting on a call or for someone to appear.

Thanks everybody for being glad we weren't squished by the tree and that there wasn't any significant damage to the house. :)

I think Erin has excellent instincts, since I feel the same way. :D

Racoons are (probably) just fine out in the wild but I'm not really not interested in seeing them on the back porch, especially they are well known to be carriers of rabies.

I want one for a pet. When you tame them they are like cats mixed with a small child. They like you but they get into everything. But you can feed them dog food or whatever table scraps you have. The only problem is finding a vet who is willing to give them shots.

The vet clinic I use here is known for treating/working with all types of animals. Too bad you aren't in assbackwards SC. :D

In SC it can't be guaranteed that everybody that graduates h.s. can read or that those that are educated post-h.s can find a job BUT you can find a vet almost anywhere around SC that will treat/work with any kind of animal or reptile. lol

I hate it when I find something I want on Amazon and then the shipping is actually really cheap and I get excited and I go through the process of purchasing and get to the final screen before confirmation which is usually the shipping and BAM! Shipping goes up €200 ='[ up yours America.

They are illegal to keep as pets in Colorado and breeders check where you live. So the only way I can get one is if I find some babies. Which would mean mom is dead if I am even close enough to find them. So I will take them and just keep the least feisty one and release the rest when they get older. My grandpa had one for a bit but Grandma did not like it.

I want to hear about this! :)

Did he find the kit with a litter and the mother dead? (I think that's what the babies are called.)

and why didn't Grandma like it?

Yeah he found it on the farm he grew up on. He was bottle feeding it and planing to keep it but I guess he decided he would rather keep grandma. They were just married at the time and he had to be on his best behavior. It was not house trained and crawled on everything and she liked to keep a clean house. I guess you can litter box train them like a cat but he didn't have time.

I'm lucky to live where I do, we don't really have any poisonous insects or snakes. There are a few rattlers around, but I've never come across one and don't know anyone who has.
