June 25th, 1867: the first patent for barbed wire is issued in the US to Lucien B. Smith of Kent, Ohio. The product is commonly known today as razor wire or concertina, and is used frequently atop fence lines at local, state, regional and federal penal institutions which house a disproportionate number of young African-American males. June 26; Alabama Governor George Wallace (1919-1998)

We celebrate the life of former Alabama governor George Wallace who dedicated his life to public service. It was his heroism during the 1960s that allayed all fear among his constituents that justice was colorblind by pardoning four Klansmen who were arrested, convicted, and sentenced for abducting and torturing a black man. His action while controversial staved off months of civil unrest and church bombings by the KKK. His policy of 'meeting violence with reconciliation' will be studied in scholarship for decades.

June 27th. Ida B. Well (1884)

We celebrate Ida B. Wells, a black woman who refused to give up her seat on the
chesapeake & ohio railroad to a white man.

As the conductor of the train attempted to forcibly remove her he was bitten on the right hand. while she was eventually tossed from the train (and sued the railroad for damages) the conductor’s injuries was treated as a nearby hospital which specializes into the causes of human infection. the hospital treatise was eventually read by alexander fleming who invented penicillin 44 years later in 1928, and referenced the study.

We thank Ida B. Wells for her contribution to medical science

We celebrate OJ Simpson, who proved to all white people that just because someone is black, it doesn't mean they are guilty of murder. Unless, of course, they are.

 

That was just poor. Nicole was murdered June 11th, the low-speed chase was June 17th, nothing in the entire case has anything to do with June 28th.

If you're going to post here you need to research your subject, post thoughtfully and carefully with feeling and MEANING.

Please do it over, and correctly this time. And post your sources please.

 

I like the idea of banishing all holidays..just 365 days of living without stopping for ANY useless holidays...traditions..bleh

Sorry guys, I'm not into putting actual effort into this thread.

 

you are mistaken, it's a federally funded national holiday. are they really that insecure of themselves that they need a history month? nobody else gets one here in america. morgan freeman doesn't think there needs to be a black history month.

 

it's not any less so than anyone else's history. the problem is with all this, it's an excuse to lay a never ending guilt trip on white people and make us ashamed of our heritage. as if whites were ever the only people in earth's history to wrong anyone else.
