The News reports over here were filled with amazement that the old stoical stereotype of the British is actually true, and not just old London Blitz history.
Dam guys I am glad to hear from most of the people I was worried about. I know Fleasy & JC is here in Canada so were safe. Glad to hear from most but I am sure there are still other that need to check in. I will be keeping an eye on this thread. I am so sorry to hear about all the crap going down there. My thoughts are with you all. Love & Sadness EnonEmouse
Same thing happened in Oklahoma City in 95. Too quiet away from the scene. (I was there) The mosque in Norman (30 min away, where I lived) was on lockdown. So was Hillel across campus. Remember how US/UK law enforcement followed the Middle Eastern decent Edmond man to Harrod's to arrest him? While McVeigh was driving through Perry, Okla.? (oddly enough, the circulation manager for my current chain of papers was publisher in perry not long after. The paper had NOTHING on the arrest.) So glad to hear our UKers are all sleepy slackers who fared well. I'm still waiting to hear on an old friend. Any news sites with lists of the dead?
Funny thing about these forums - 3 years ago, there would have been noone in England that I would have known (and I say England not London, because it seems so small to me that anyone could have been in danger) . Now there are all kinds of people for me to worry over.
I'm touched by the concern, but Taz and I are both still in once piece. We were there when it all happened though. Thankfully we were 10 minutes late, I'm so glad I'm a lazy bastard, they'd already closed the tubes, but we turned up at Kings Cross 10 minutes after the bomb went off, which was when we began to hear what had happened. At first people were saying it was a power failure, or flooding, or overcrowding, but there were police and ambulances everywhere and we finally began to hear what had actually happened. Took ages for it to sink in. Londoners have been warned about this for ages, but I guess people never really think that all this can affect them. The wars we've faught in recent years have only ever been played out on television screens, only now do we see that we're not invulnerable to the consequences of our actions. If only the politicians will take a lesson from this, but I can only see them doing more of the same....
"The wars we've faught in recent years have only ever been played out on television screens, only now do we see that we're not invulnerable to the consequences of our actions" how are you so sure the recent bombings are just the consequences of our actions"
