I see change all around me. I see smiles on faces that use to be hard set mouths. I see people that use to think right winged trun left. When I see someone get it, and start doing instead of griping about it, it makes it worth all the aggravation we went through so we could say what was on our minds.. I would feel discouraged too if I thought for a moment that what happened in the 60's achived nothing. I feel we take from it what each we need. Our openess to it brings it to us so we can manifest it into being. The Doing. Some had it worse then others and paid the price with their freedom and sometimes their lives. It was not for nothing, we achived a great deal. We did help the women's Rights Movement and Equal Oppertunity. I do believe we helped people see that there are different ways to achive the dream. We opened up the whole world to different ideas and ways of expressing ourselves. The young people can now speak their minds and not be punished for 'Children should be seen and not heard'. We showed people that you can be different but still be caring, loving and a decent human being. We showed men it was ok to show feelings and cry when happy or sad and still be concidered a man. We showed women that you can have a job and family if you want but you don't have to have a man to be a whole human being, that you are compleat as you are. We faught for gay rights and that has come a long way (but still needs work). I'm not trying to debate with anyone , I just would like to see some positive input on things that we DID DO and not all that we didn't do or what didn't work. We learned and we grew, we can only pass on what we learned and try to live the right way. We didn't fail. We only fail when we don't learn and grow.
Also civil rights was a big thing back then.Racial equality. Our country has come a long way since the 60's.
never lose faith man, there are so many young people nowadays who want to change the world - just look around on these forums! there are people who are growing up thinking about why we have to have all the hate and suffering in the world, people who know that love and peace are the answer, that love for your fellow man (and woman) is the way to truly change things and change all the aggresion that society seems to be based upon. i'm only 19, i dont yet know much about the world, but i know that you guys all made a difference in the 60s and 70s. dont be disheartened just because it looks like the demons are taking over, they can never crush the strength of the human spirit, all is not lost, and it never will be. you started people thinking, and sometimes that's all it takes to make a difference. teach the young, there are so many people who want to make a difference but have no idea how - im one of them. so before you start feeling down about the world, remember that you have always been making a difference, and you still can, you just have to have faith in people. hope i helped you my friend, it kills me to imagine someone who must have once been so full of happiness and determination sitting there feeling down, believing he never made a difference
Hey, Shameless! Pretty well said. My old man was shot and killed by "cowboys" and one of our family was killed by a deputy sheriff. I could go on and on . . . You're right, those of us who lived the life full-time, we lived it with heart. It took a lot of courage in some places - more in others than in some. Even so, in college we were fiercely ridiculed and harassed. I think our courage to continue on in spite of hostility is something we can be proud of. Our convictions and our willingness to live them, our passion for making the world better, our love and care of others - all contributed to making this world a better place. I can't help feeling that something "cosmic" is going on right now - lots of dark clouds on the horizon, kind of blotting out the sun we helped to make shine into all the dark and dreary corners so many years ago - but I don't think it's anything but temporary. That said, it's still a time, I think, we need to project as much love and positive energy out into the universe now that we did 30 some years ago. "C'mon people now, Smile on your brother Ev'rybody get together Try and love one another right now"
