potpurri gives me a migraine, so it causes physical pain (at least in me) it collects dust, it can go out of style, but not really. Doilies, though, they can protect your cake platform, when you put them under the cake. Saves time on cleaning all the gunk off, as it goes with the throw away doilie. Did you know that crocheted doilies were originally used to keep the dye or "mascara" that Victorain men placed on their heads from staining the chair or furniture? They were called "antimasscars." So, they do serve a purpose, and cause no physical pain. But, your analogy was close.....
Before you roll out the sarcasm wagon again, please go back and actually bother to read my post...maybe then you'll notice that I was talking about ethically made shoes. A general definition of such foot wear is that they are shoes made from synthetic products and purchased from fair trade dealers. Sweat shops in China don't supply ethically made shoes. However, yes, such shoes can be expensive. Another, cheaper alternative is to buy/recycle second hand shoes from op shops. Most op shops (in NZ anyway) operate for charity so any profits go to a charitable organisation rather than to sweat shop owners. anyway, on another note - yeah I see shoes as a bit of fun decoration. maybe not like books - more like....a hairstyle? I could wear the same hairdo every day - it would probably be less maintenance and it would certainly be practical. However, I personally like to mix things up a bit - I get a little bored with the same style day after day and so I find it fun to experiment with my hair. With shoes it's much the same. but like i said that's me personally...everyone's different... oooh, and p.s. yeah i'll come shoe shopping (or just shoe looking)...just let me save for a trip out of the southern hemisphere...
you know, for a while i had a thing about collecting socks in funny patterns and styles. people would bring me funny socks they'd found somewhere. then there was a hat phase. my dad had a lot of fun browsing old second hand stores for funny hats. he couldn't believe i'd wear them.
