I haven't read the thread; sorry, but in response to the original topic: one of my best friends is black (I'm not) and he is a racist. however, in his case this is not the usual sense of that word. he is extra-ordinarily educated and aware of race and all of it's implications. he is one of the most amazing human beings I have met! he considers his racial heritage to be superior, and I must agree as he is one of the most perceptive and intelligent and physically well humans I've known! his wife and children are unsually strong in these ways as well. this is not to say that any race should be looked down upon in the least. it is only to say that his bloodline is clean, consciously chosen over the centuries and strong. he has shown equal love of all races and creeds in an unusually generous way! he has never hinted at any tendencies to what is usually termed racisism. me? I know that ultimately we are all one life. why can't his view become the meaning of racism?
Its funny how certain subjects come up in here, after a 'real' world example occurs. My best friend is a chef at a restaurant in town. Last night we were having a beer with one of the servers and one of his friends that happened to be african american, after the restaurant closed. I forget how we got on the subject of racism, but this african american who was 22 years old starts ranting and raving about slavery and the whiteman this and that. My friend let him finish his rant and then pointed to a Mercedez Benz outside and says, by the same token as your rant, history, should I hate the owner of that car? The kid said what do you mean. Neil responds, I'm Jewish, Germans killed family members of mine and millions of other Jews, but do you see me having a chip on my shoulder against Germany? This is what I'm refering to in terms of viewing people as individuals and not having hatred towards an individual solely based upon the mistakes their ancestors made in the past or members of their race/culture still may make in the present time.
well, ryan... that post was very relivant and goes towards how i think daily. im gonna send you a nice lil rep. point for that (if it allows me) damn... it wont allow me.. think i gave you good rep. recently but... good vibes anyways.
ok well when an intelligent person says "the white man" , they are talking about the laws and system that was created to glorify white people as superior. At the time, white people were the only ones who had any power so it had to be created by whites. The laws and social attitudes existed, the history books say so. People would like to pretend that because the laws are now changed that everything is hunky dory. Truth is something that took 300+ years to build doesn't go away in a mere 40 years. That horrible way of life has had systematic effects that are still rippling in our society. Does it mean that a black person can't succeed? NO but there may just be a few more hurdles to jump. That's what an intelligent black person means when they say "the white man". They don't mean that white man.. right there...... in the blue shirt..... YEAH YOU!!!! YOU'RE RUINING MY LIFE!!!!!!!!
quote: geography had nothing to do with it...wtf are u thinking dude they still live in shambles and we have things called houses, and cars that can drive at nice speeds, and rodes, and skyscrapers. Yea, you live in southern california, i would hardly call that civilization, more like apocalyptic hellhole...you may be looking at africa and crying because its so much better after your area is fucking leveled. fucking teenagers, the girls look like whores and the guys look like they don't know what to do with them:
This statement is suggesting that african americans were the only people supressed by social attitudes. I'm Irish, do you think the Irish had shit for opportunity in this country before JFK became president? Do I feel hatred for the hell my family had to endure up until a short time ago? No I don't. My best friend is Jewish - 3+ million of his people were murdered less than 100 years ago. Does he hate Germans because of this now? No, he doesn't. Yes, I will agree wounds do not heal over night. However, it starts with individuals looking at people as individuals. As I said in an earlier post, I am me and I happen to be white and well, Irish too. You are you and you happen to be African American. However, really all that should matter is that you are you and I am me. When people learn to think this way - racism will end.
misfontella is african american? she looked like something diff. to me...maybe italian. (not that it matters either way) um, yeah lots of people had bad shit happen to them. i truly believe everyone needs to put it behind and look at people as people. i have preached many times to many people. however, i have almost given up. it's tiring.
The sign of a truly enlightened person is taking each individual on a case by case basis....the sign of a moron is stiff bizquette or limp biscuit
black, white, asian, mexican..it doesnt matter. forget about race because as far as im concerned theres only one-the human race. without each others help there isnt hope for us.
Read it again. I did not say black or african american in the part you quoted. you saw what you wanted to see
like I said, if you haven't experienced, you probably won't understand if you don't see why our histories IN THIS COUNTRY are different and how that affects us today, well then you won't see what I'm saying Oh well......I tried
again, you misunderstand, I'm talking about being black which I'm sure you haven't experienced....... or was that you in that movie Soul Man?
Ok, I haven't experienced racism from a black person's perspective, but have you experienced it from a white person's perspective? I'm not going to argue this - racism is still prevelant in society and its sad. Like I've said before, I look at people as individuals - their race, nationality etc, doesn't even occur to me.
whatever you call it ...profiling .....when yer the only white guy for 25 blocks in any direction ...it becomes walking while white , instead of driving while black ....its what stickes out that gets loped off in america as far AS THE ATHORITES GO !
I wasn't agruing....I was trying to clarify. You kept misunderstanding me. (which is usually what the problem between races....misunderstanding.....not just of black people....I gotta be specific with you) And I never likened your Irish heritage to mine. I can only speak from my perpective. So that's all I do
