I seen C&CF at the IMAX theater...Johnny Depp on a HUUUUUUGE big screen...*goosebumps* Back to the film itself. I really enjoyed it. I thought the original was more for kids, while this one was a little darker. There were a lot of kids in the theater and a couple of them cried in the movie. I think it scared them a lot. I thought Depp did a really good job as Willy Wonka...he wasn't trying to play Gene Wilder's Wonka. I didn't care for Gene's rendition compared to what the book represented Wonka as. I also really liked how the new one showed where Wonka came from and what happened to the characters at the end. Job well done!
I've seen it twice already and hopefully gonna see it again. It does seem quite similar to the original eg the chocolate room and the waterfall. The tunnel scene was disappointing but ah well. Somehow i enjoyed it all and both times couldn't stop smiling and laughing at Depp's portrayal of Wonka. Bit dark...i think the original wonka from the book should have been much warmer. Wilder's performance was the closest. On the other hand it was an interesting way of acting Wonka(Depp). "Good morning starshine, the earth says hello!" "everything in this room is eatable, even i'm eatable but that is called cannibalism-my dear children..and is frowned upon in most societies" "well i can't very well watch the show from in there now can i li'l girl hehe" i love his laugh. that's how i laugh!
I went to see it the day after it came out. I loved it and in my opinion it was better than the first one though I like them both. I plan on buying it when it comes out and watching it over and over again.
Really great movie, enjoyed every part of it. My friend and I where constantly laughing over the oompa loompa's, they looked and sang just like the Village People. So we were just waiting for the first indian to hit the screen haha Willy Wonka = Michael Jackson! See it when you're stoned!
I know, he was so sexy, with those sleek gloves and the suit. What about that part where he was in the Oompa Loompa land and he had to eat that green stuff and he was like, flicking his tongue around, that was arousing
The original was a psychedelic materpiece! There was trippy locations, some crazy Gene Wilder acting and Charlie and his grandpa even got high(in a way!). The remake was good but not that great. The songs were awful!
i saw the movie yesterday and thought it had some good things in it but was in no way as good as the original. the parent of the kid who wanted everything in the original was a stressed out dude...all the parents in the new movie didnt even really say much. The grandpa wasnt as good. And Willy Wonka was funny at first but just got annoying after a while. The original movie had more trippy things in and, and more funny things. The Oompa Loompa songs arnt very good in the new movie. i cant even remember them. they should have kept them looking the same as the original ones in the old movie.
It holds no comparison to the original but I'm sure that's not what Burton was going for. But whatever, I still enjoyed it.
Finally got around to see it. I saw it trashed and I must say that I enjoyed it. Depp was great. I like how they fleshed out Wonka as a character. He was just nuts. Fantastic movie.
Saw it last weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't think it's quite fair to compare it to the original, because I think the intention was to make a different "Willy Wonka". Gene Wilder was a fantastic Willy Wonker, of course, but Johnny Depp was also great, just in a different way. He was a bit darker & very kooky.. loved his laugh! There were certain parts where I was expecting more, like the dialogue or something was flat in certain bits of the film, namely when they were in the actual factory. Loved the new oompa loompa songs - they were hilarious. I don't think I could ever not like a Burton / Depp collaboration, 'cause I just love their style.. always odd & kooky, in a dark & spooky kinda way. Also, loved the bits with Charlie & his family - they were all such loveable characters. I can understand why kids would freak out watching this though... it's definitely darker than the original. Anyhoo, overall, really good film.. and one I'm going to add to my DVD collection.
As people have posted several times in this thread already, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was not supposed to be a remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I have seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory several times because of my job and I love it. I'm not a huge fan of the oompa loompas and their songs, but I love the rest. All of the characters were very well-played and the movie definately showed things that Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory never addressed. It's similar to the new Batman Begins movie. Not a remake, but an attempt at making a more accurate representation of the literature upon which it's based.
the new movie is no more like the book than the old one. they both differ to the book in different ways. i still think that the new movie has more differences though, mostly in the character of willy wonka himself.
