    NO.
that's all i have to say, I just can't ever compare Johnny Depp to fucking Michael Jackson.

Also, take note that it's pretty obvious he doesn't have a strong liking to children in the movie either... Whereas, we all know Jackson has an extremely strong liking to children :$

I went and seen this at the drive in. It was cute.

I like the first better, but this one was good for kids today. It was very modern.

    Good for most kids anyway...
Some lady sitting next to me had a two year old boy with her, and he was honestly frightened. He was covering his eyes and ears crying...

I didn't see anything too disturbing about it, but odd things creep children out. My boyfriend's father saw Wizard of Oz when he was young and was traumatized by it, he can never watch it again.

im glad i didnt pay for this movie, cuz except for depp and the songs, it was pretty much the same as the original, and didnt really need to be redone

depps performance was pretty good, but dear god, those songs were absolutely horrible

Whoa, what's up with your picture? ;)
Anyway, I liked the songs...I mean I still like some of the songs from the original but anything beats "Cheer up Charlie".
Yeah, it was pretty similar but I don't think it was the same...I mean there were certain things missing from the first one (Slugworth, the bubble scene, the freaky scenes in the tunnel) but there were also scenes in the new one that weren't in the original (the story of where the Oompa Loompa's came from, Willy Wonka's childhood) and I thought these added a little charm to the overall movie. Anyway, I am happy to say I like both versions and will be happy to own both.

Alright well i saw it twice in theaters and i loved it. its actually a pretty crazy movie and its really funny. it's not a remake bacause the origional was "Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory" and the new one is "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". There is a difference.

Give it a try. I did and i loved it.

I'm pretty sure the old one was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

It was a good movie. I liked the opening bit with the family. Overall, I was disappointed. I realize it's not fair to compare the old and the new, but I couldn't help it. The whole movie started falling apart for me half way through. The reason I liked the old one was because of Willy Wonka. Gene Wilder's character was so much better. From the moment they get to the factory, he has all the guests in the palm of his hand - he has complete control over them, and everything he does was part of his grand infallible scheme. I liked that. I didn't like that the kids got the best of Johnny Depp's Wonka. When one of those kids was a smart as to Gene Wilder, he was right on them with the most perfect, twisted, witty comeback that just shut them up everytime. Johnny Depp's character was too weak. I didn't like what they didi with the boat scene either. The great thing about that scene in the old one was that it was SO FUCKED UP. For a minute you think you aren't watching a kids movie anymore. It was perfect.

It was pretty good overall, but lacked the charm and timelessness of the old one.

yeah its called Tim Burtons lack of ability to capture any real human emotion besides "uncomfortably awkward"

gotta say this is the worst remake of all time. Depp just acts like a loopy moron.

it was ok, it's a good kids film but it's not a patch on the original. the original was so good because it was so darkly surreal, willy wonka WAS the factory, and walking through it was like taking a stroll through his mind. depps wonka was too childlike and not as much of a twisted genius as wilders. if wilders wonka had decided on world domination rather than chocolate then we'd all be saluting the willy right now, depps wonka was just a strange manchild. not to mention the crappy heartwarming moments, charlie saying candy doesnt have to have a point, thats why its candy, and wonka looking down at him with some kind of half arsed wonder.

actually I have.....it sucked so whats your point? I didn't "feel" for those characters either. Once again Tim Burton can't capture real human emotion unless its a character struggling to deal with his or her own real human emotion just like Tim!!!
