I see your point but the World's becoming more violent by the day (especially this country, you can't move for knife carrying scum that like to run their mouths) and that's going to continue whether people are 'joking' about hippies on fire or not.

Don't take it so personally. Tap into a higher state of mind and let them feed their egos.

yeah hippies are like the most misunderstood type of person. in this case ppl don't understand hippies because they don't understand themselves in their cultural context (a hippie is just an authentic, facade-less human). I don't associate myself with the butt of the joke because I'm only a hippie as I define it myself, not how others define it. Yeah it's an image of violence but what if you inserted "lawyer" where it reads "hippie." Much funnier but no less violent, and lawyers are still people with heartbeats and feelings (maybe):p

stalk was right, people do just need some one they can look down on and think "at least I'm not that low." which only speaks to their own insecurity and lack of self-esteem.

no problem with expressing displeasure! :D

but lol... i have a sick sense of humor... somehow laughing at really offensive stuff seems to break a lot of the super serious energy that boggs me down and makes it difficult for me to be myself. so i kind of laughed at it.

violence and hatred towards certain groups of people aren't going to go away, and reacting to it isn't gonna help IMO, so i'm just gonna laugh and be like... light me up, cause i'm a hippy... but watch you don't get your own hair in the way, all that hairspray, you're likely to go up with me, lol!

Really though, and again I say this without trying to cause offence, but it does look like you're taking it a bit too personally.
To be honest, I'd be surprised if they had the cognitive capacity to see past the stereotypical viewpoint on hippies.
They're 'joking' (or hating, whichever way you look at it) because they blatantly obviously don't understand.
