Didn't need any strength or anything Was fine. Used Dr. Bronner's today to start clearing any stuff away ready for bleaching. Was weird lol, but not tempted to go back to soap full-time
I kept feeling that my dreads were not locking because of the oils on my head... I have such a greasy scalp and although stopping washing helped cut down on the grease, I still felt it hindered my dreading. And also the smell... I couldn't get rid of the "hair" smell. Ah well, maybe I'll try again at a later date.... maybe when winter comes around and my head's permanently in a toque anyway. Good luck on the bleaching. You're so fun!
jeez. remember when i was the only one who washed with just water and no one believed that it worked and told me my hair must smell bad? lawl. well im glad its working for you guys too
To be honest I don't particularly like it.. :/ It seems to leave a bit of a goo on my scalp, but I'm trying hard to rinse it out really well each time. I have not found that perfect balance for my head yet.
^^^Daisy, have ya tried the rasta hemp shampoo bar from mountain sky? Handmade right here in the kootenays. www.mountainskysoap.com
No I have not tried it. Thanks! When I finish this bar I def want to try something else so will try that!!
i just wash with baking soda and water then rinse with water and a few drops of rose oil to get thatt nice fresh flowery smell. most days i go swimming a pool and rinse with water. i think that it matters not much what i use to clean the hair, but i vigorously scrub my scalp with my fingernails while showering.... i think this is what cleans the best. i used to use doc bronners but ican't stand all that religious mumbo jump written on the bottle. "i'm trying to shower here, not be proselytized!geezz"
I loveee washing my hair with just water. Once every so often I use my lush shampoo bar if I was in the city or spilt something on my hair. lulz. but washing with water more often than not leaves my locks super soft. I love it.
same with what daisy said really, it left a goo/gunge on my scalp and id find myself picking at it and it looking like dandruff (it wasnt, it was just gunge) sometimes it made my skin itch, and also i didnt really like how my hair felt after id used it
OMG!! I needed to update in here. I am NEVER using that Knotty Boy bar again. AGH! After using it three times in a row I now have that scummy shit all over my scalp again. OI!!!!@! So back to baking soda until i order the mountain bar and try it that bcmama suggested. Smelly hair smell is a million times better then this scum!!!!
I just started using the stuff I used when I first started dreading because I was sick of the bronner residue. this: my dreads have never felt or smelled cleaner. though I'm gona start making my own soap once I get more settled in my new place
I was always a bit nervous about the making of the soap because as I see it your either going to have too much fat, which I would have assumed meant you risked leaving a residue, or too much lye which is just all-round bad. I suppose if it was just a tad fatty the soapyness would deal with that but in all honesty i don't really know what im talking about.
I had dreads for 4 and a half years and only washed with water and i tell you it was the best set of dreads i had ever had,and no, contradictory to everyones more then retarded belief that you need soap to not smell, my dreads did not smell nor get disqusting and funky, they had zero dandruff and they actually matured 3-4 months faster then the set i have now. People seem to forget that soap isnt a goddamn necessity, Its a product and sorry but i for one dislike the whole soap myth when it comes to dreads.
