Thanks hun, I really appreciate that! I honestly LOVE helping people with career advancement and coaching. I don't know why I didn't take that up as a profession since they say "do what you love". It is really my pleasure to have helped, even though I don't feel I made a huge contribution, you took the initiative to start the process and kept the ball rolling - that is what landed you a successful interview!

Congrats la Principessa! Sounds like you got it or at least they are interested, otherwise she wouldn't have asked about when can you start. If you don't hear back by tuesday, don't get discouraged just call and say something along the lines of you are calling to check in, check status, excited about the job etc.

happily, you should get life coach certified then. One of my clients is a life coach and she loves her job and makes quite a bit too. She didn't get into it until in her 40s. I guess you actually have to get certified or something.

congrats principessa! I know its such a good feeling to nail an interview.

hey happily since you're a budding career coach can you give me some advice? I applied for a job last week and haven't heard anything yet. When I've submitted my resume the website clearly said someone will be in touch and if no one is in touch then sorry, you are not right for the job.

I really really want this job and i feel like I am right for it to the point I feel there's no reason why i shouldn't get an interview lol. So I'm wondering if I should give a follow up call to ask if they've taken a look at my resume or if I should take the message on the website at face value and just wait for them.

Good luck! I think I've gotten more jobs thru CL than anywhere else. I think I suggested Craigslist to you too (in your help wanted thread). Always a hidden goldmine. Dunno what it is about that place, but I'm not complaining :). You'll do great!

    What is your background in?

While I might not be a budding career coach, I have a knack for landing jobs!

I would advise you to give them the follow up call! These people see an ocean of paper applicants, and they all seem fairly similar. A personal phone call really puts an image to the piece of paper and makes you distince. I've landed a few jobs where they either 1. don't call me for an interview so I contact them or 2. tell me they aren't hiring but I filled out a resume regardless. The mere act of doing something above/beyond really makes them want to hire you.

Think...they have a LOT of qualified people going for this job, and they have to pick someone. Why not the person who sticks out? The final decision is often arbitrary, since everyone is well qualified.

try learning a skill. or maybe find a company you like and work your way up
that is, assuming you have any ambition. but it sounds like you don't have much of that.

I often want to ask various people I come across daily just one question but I never get a chance. Now i have a chance.

Why be rude and put someone down, especially in such an arbitrary way? What is the point of your negativity?

    I guess that's two questions.

    i'm being realistic, not rude.

it should be pretty obvious how to get a job and get off of foodstamps. either learn a skill, get a degree, some sort of certification, or become your own boss.

i mean, shit, it's gotta be pretty tough getting a job when you have no skills.

but hey, McDonalds is always hiring i hear

Mainly retail and computer stuff. So this job is pretty good for me.

Lol I saw a few ads that looked like obvious scams for porn movies or something. I steered clear of those haha.

I've gotten lots of jobs off craigslist. I don't really use it anymore, but it was pretty useful in it's early days. What kind of computer stuff?

You don't have to be certified to be a life coach, it's not a regulated industry, but there are lots of certification programs out there. You should get some sort of training or at least hire a coach to see how the job works. There are lots of relevant backgrounds you can get training in that will help.

Of course if you have a ton of life experience and you can prove that you can help people and you're worth the money you charge, that's all that matters. Just don't be one of the coaches who suddenly decided they wanted to do it and really isn't qualified to help people unless they do exactly what you tell them to do. It's not about telling people what to do, it's about helping people to come up with ways to create a better life for themselves and motivating and encouraging them...keeping them accountable. You need to have several approaches and activities to help them through their journey.

I've seen it backfire hard when people go into that career unqualified. Reputation ruining stuff. Also business skills are super useful. It's a saturated market and a lot of people don't really think they need a life coach, you might have to do some educating your target audience and/or do a lot of marketing to find the market that's already looking for your services, since, again they have many, many choices.

More people need to start their own businesses and run them. This would fix things since the big companies would have to get their shit straight if they wanted to stay a big company.

Congratulations on the interview. If you have the woman's email address you could send her a short "thank you for the interview email" and let her know you are looking forward to hearing from her about the position.

Eons ago it was recommended to send a letter but in this day and age everything happens so much faster that an email might help. It would set you apart from those who had interviews but did not follow up.

    Hey maybe I should.

You know the happiness clinic at Harvard Uni concluded that 95% of people change career course an average of 3-4 times within their lifetime.
